These are the plays that have me lose confidence in the sim engine:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=471520&pbp_id=18468804There's no way a 100-strength DT with an untouched path to the HB, hits him right at the handoff and the HB brushes him off like a fly (and goes on to brush 3-4 other clear path defenders on the same run). In the history of professional football, I can't ever recall seeing a strong DT with a clear path to the HB simply bounce off him when hitting at the handoff. The HB has no momentum at the point on impact.
Yet, even if you bought that it could happen, he would be seriously staggered at a minimum and need to regather himself before continuing on.
The fact that this play happens makes me think there is simply a discrete "dice roll" for each tackle with no "common sense" factor in play. A DT gets the same "roll chance" if he's hitting the back in the backfield as if he's catching him from behind (with the back having a full head of steam).
In other words, if it's predetermined the back triggers "power thru" for the play - you can have a mack truck steamroll the HB during the handoff and it won't slow him down.
