don't hold your breath. The chances of this award getting to a good team are slim and none and I think slim just left the building.

Looks like the same two teams can just agree to play each other! Playing the finalist again is more than a little pathetic to say the least.

cavalier, it was a "fantasy" game. There was no tournament to decide the winner...just some dorks on a private board (I think). So, the two teams that were in the fantasy finals are playing as the first challenge. In the sense that it gives the team that lost the fantasy game a real chance to win the title instead of just a fantasy chance, it is legit. Howeever, there are quite literally hundreds of teams in AA and AAA better than Berlin.

I'll give some cliff notes to respond to some of this.

- Defenses against quality teams will be forced if avoided by the Champion.
- The initial defense was their choice, and fine to give the second place team a chance in a real scrim.
- Yes Pabst's script was used. It was designed for these tournaments.
- Friendly slots = heavily filled. This was used to get the trophy out there ASAP to be defended.
- No, there was no private board. Invitations were public, and posted in Announcements.
- You can send ANY suggestions on how to make it better to Tournaments. That tends to get more accomplished than being a pessimist.
- We want to make this a cool addition to GLB, so your input is absolutely needed.
- Negative Nancy's will not be forced to participate.

Understand on the scrimmage slots. I think a lot of folks (myself included) did not realize that a fake tournament was being held and thus the confusion on why the team that just lost is getting the first challenge.

* In the future, a "fantasy" tournament could perhaps play out in scrimmages the final four, or at least the championship game to prevent a repeat of this scenario if running the entire bracket is unwieldy?

* I would strongly encourage a way to rank challengers such that the a defender simply MUST play the strongest teams from each region. Even if they try and duck the tough regions (USA/CA AAA) they still have to play the better SA, Africe, EE teams, etc.

We just thought it was fair that we give Berlin first shot in a real game since they lost to us in a "fantasy" game.

even if you guys do not think that Berlin is worthy of such a title defense (the BBB-A tourney like this has a similar situation in the final) you have to admit that it is fair for a team that lost the title in a "fantasy" matchup to at least get a shot in a head to head matchup... maybe they have the best damn AI in GLB... who knows.. at least give them the shot and go from there
Now if highly undeserving teams keep getting shots that could be something to gripe about, but I think this first one is fair

Maybe had you read the rules and regs on Championship defenses before posting, you'd have a better idea of how things worked...

Look at the posts from Mar 14, 2009 15:26:42 to March 16 at the same time. There weren't many challenges available at the time. The initial post had said that Berlin was the first challenger. What's wrong with giving the first challenger the first shot, if approved by the board?

I'll even bold some things of note for you...

May not be defended in one region on consecutive defenses
May not be defended in one region more than twice until all 8 regions have had one shot
Must be defended in alternating levels if applicable (ie: AA/AAA)

What that means is, should we successfully defend against Berlin (an EE AA Team) our next defense has to be against a team that is AAA and not in the EE Region. So, should we successfully defend, all of the AA Teams we don't choose to play next already know why... WE CAN'T PLAY AN AA TEAM NEXT!

Should we be successful against Berlin, I honestly have no idea who our next defense will be against... But you can bet we'll choose to defend against qualified teams that don't go out of their way to whine and complain about who we do select, especially when the complainers don't know the rules.
