Congratulations to the Fiji Panzers on their win of the First Annual Sharpie Classic(ASC). The ASC was a 16 team tournament featuring teams from all over the world levels 48-57 ranging from teams in A-AAA ball.
The Fiji Panzers came in as the 13th seed and never looked back. A first round win over Samara Salukis was an impressive win. Fiji was down 10-7 after the 1st quarter but never looked back after an early TD pass to AJ Cooley. Fiji went on to score 52 points and win the game 52-30.
In their second round matchup against Sabueso Warriors, they once again were trailing after one. Down 3-0 going into the 2nd, QB AJ Theismann threw 3 TD's in the 2nd giving Fiji a 21-3 lead going into halftime. Going into the 4th, Fiji was only leading 21-17 but behind 3 more TD's by QB AJ Theismann and a rushing TD from AJ Byner, Fiji went on to a 49-17 victory.
In a game where it seemed that Fiji would lose, they did just the opposite. In the Semi-Finals against Brasilla, they trailed 3-0 after one. Once again behind the arm of QB AJ Theismann and the legs of Byner, they lead 14-6 at the half. Brasilla couldnt keep up with 2 more TD's from each Byner and Theismann, losing the game 42-6.
Now Fiji was in the finals against a team that had similar success throughout the tourny as they won their first match up 59-33, second round 20-10, and knocked off tournament organizer Sharpie's team in the third round with a 30-14 game. Unlike Fiji, they had been tested and they were ready to take on Fiji.
The first time Fiji ever had a 1st quarter lead came in the Championship against the Samarinda Saints. The Panzers started off with a FG, then added a Forced Fumble return for a TD to go up 10-0. And you know the story from here. QB AJ Theismann and HB AJ Byner took over the rest of the quarter and left the 1st leading 24-0. The 2nd quarter was filled with more of the same stuff. 2 Pass TD's by AJ Theismann and HB AJ Byner added 2 on the ground leading 52-0 with under a minute left. The Saints kicked 2 FG's in the final minute of the 3nd to make the score 52-6. Fiji came out just as strong in the 3rd quarter and went up 66-9. The Saints scored 13 in the final quarter but wasnt enough to come back against Fiji, who won the Championship game 66-22.
I would just like to say thank you to every team that was involved and it was a pleasure playing those that i played, and those that played others. The tournament was a great success and i cant wait to get it off the ground next season. I will be accepting teams that played this year depending on the levels i choose.
Without further adu, the trophy.
