my lvl 44 DE has had 3 tackles, 1 sack all season. mostly against similar level OTs, not played any gutteds yet, but i've seen worse DEs out there with a few sacks against the same gutted teams that i'm going to be up against soon, so i'm expecting a few then.

still, i've got 60 STR, 67 SPD, 98 AGI, but have been shut out totally against some OTs. retirement is beckoning i feel.

really not sure where to go with this, speed or strength?

The problem is there is no answer to fix DEs right now. I have yet to see a DE that is putting up any kind of reasonable stats against equal level competition. For the most part not even getting any tackles...it is sad to look at a box score and see 3 or 4 of my teams DEs on the bottom of the defense with 40-50 plays and absolutely no stats.

Trying not to state the obvious, but IMO the problem is with the math equation that Bort put inplace.

The equation that takes all the skills into an account and spits out a number can not be equaled or beaten by any DE unless they have 10+ levels on the OT

Since I have two CupCake games I'm kicking around trying 3 things:

Scenario 1.
Line our lvl 33 DT up as a RE and see if his Str can overpower the LT

Scenario 2.
Set the ROLB to blitz 100% of the time with a level 34 RE and a level 33 DT to open a hole for him.

Scenario 3.
Offset the line, putting a lower level DT next to a higher level RE to see if the RE draws a double team.

last year against competition that was mostly a few levels higher, he lead his conference in sacks and hurries (25 and 35...so not huge numbers)

this year, because he boosted where many hadn't, he's right around the league average of 27th lvl and he's got 90+ agi and 60+ speed and he's much less effective (9 sacks so far, but pretty much none against any tough LTs).

admittedly, i've sacrificed strength and tackling thusfar...but i'm not sure if adding strength now is the way...or perservering with his build-plan (since it may be too late to change now anyways...)and going to 100+ agi and 70+ spd...

...or now do i need more strength to reactivate his rushing?

lost.

If I had the cash to really experiment with my equipment I might could answer this in a couple weeks, but it would take millions of fake money, and 1800 flex. I would really like to try taking all my agility gear and turning it into speed, and then see how that works in a sim against a good LT. If that doesn't net results then I would switch to strength gear to test that. The one nice thing about my average/crappy build is that I can get one attribute into the 90s with equipment.

I just took all of my equipment off of speed...wanna guess why? Not much production. I had 93 total in speed. 70 in agility. I have no idea as well. I have equipment points still available and I'm wondering if I should put them in strength...

Here is your STR/strongbase build experiment. I landed a good piece of AE today and shifted custom equip around. My Vet abilities are not great as I was going in a different direction early in the season. Will track stats from game 8 and on. (1st 7 games were horrible anyway)

85/75 speed and agility, high first step..

Absolute trash this season, the changes are extremely frustrating.

Game 8 statline bigfat ZERO. 85 STR + 8 Strong Base playing on bullrush and I cannot find one example where my DE pushed back the LOT on a rush play or collapsed the pocket on a pass play.

He is playing against OT's that are his level or below, so I'm not really sure what the issue is. Something has definitely changed this season.... Last year he played back up on a team in a higher league against OT's that outleveled him by on average 5 levels and got close to 10 sacks.

Send me your build. I'll tell you what's wrong.

I've actually had more luck with my DE this season than I did in the last, and I've moved up a league and he's facing better OT's. All I'll say about the set up is that he's built without the "speed & agility push" that most were targeting, but is still very good in those respects. Played both sides of the line this season with the last two games on the right.

I'm not saying he's super dominant, but he's actually doing better now than he did last season with the "nerf"

i was hoping that you were right...(really was!) but then i looked into it.

With all due respect, your DE has 6 sacks and 5 of them were against teams that you blew away (gutted teams, or teams with no clue)...the other was against a lvl 34 RT who looked like he could lose to Jabba the Hutt in a foot race (ie, a guy who doesn't know how to build).

Not to mention that your league is still pretty low leveled and you might catch some agents who don't yet know that a tackle with 48 strength, 48 blocking, 48 agility and 48 speed can basically neutralize a DE up to 40th level this year (i see it hapen game in and game out)

My DE plays against tougher guys than yours and is lower leveled. He has 9 sacks and 7 were against gutted teams.

i still have yet to see eveidence of a DE who i going to get 25 sacks this season that came against comparable O-Linemen.

i'll wait and see if this gets re-re-re-balanced...because i suspect that GLB is on th verge of losing customers over this...

Its terrible. Nerf the snot out of DE for normal stats. There is Qb with 4000 yards passing RB with 1,500 rushing already this season. Guess you need to make offensive player if you want stats.

IMO, Bort needs to implement "Holding" penalties next season. I have a DE Level 37 with 6 tackles, 2 hurries, 1 sack and averages 42 ppg. I have watched film and it appears he is getting held on several plays.
