I'm building an extreme possession WR if anyone wants to check him out. This build probably isn't ideal but I wanted to try something new.

Neither am i. But the problem is that no one seems to know how exactly a jump ball is calculated. If a WR has 4 times the catching and jumping than a CB has and they are in the same position how many times out of ten will the WR make the catch. My thought is that if you can make a guy who wins the jumpball 95% of the time and has the athleticism to make at least a little seperation - would he not be potentially a deadly weapon, that few if any CB's are built to counter?

There is a CB built to counter it:

http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=660431

I have no idea what his build is like now, but I do know that he had 60+ jumping in season 4 and he's basically been an INT machine since then.

Dude has a 56.38 jumping. I'm thinking that he's getting more shots at the ball later in the game with that 46.76 Stamina though. Gotta be the combo on his Jumping/Vision/Catching that's helping him out more I'd reckon.

also helps that he is in an A league... my CB is at 52 jump and i had 27 reg season INTs, and 150 PDs last season in an A league... when it comes to nabbing INTs id say vis/agility are key, and then jumping for sure helps too. really helps when it comes to PDs though, thats where jumping really shines. as for building a possession receiver (m no expert on WR builds by any means... but id say i know CB builds fairly well) speed to 3 cap should be enough as long as you have the agility to really make a nice cuts. most CBs, even at lvl 40 wont have the highest vis in the world... most at lvl 40 i'd say have it around 60, which is decent, but if you're making cuts all over the place, you should be able to get a bit of separation.... at least enough for the qb to try and squeeze it in to you real quick.

To be honest, with that build I'd expect him to do much better. I know he's thrown to a lot, but currently he's only caught 62% of his passes with 10 drops and 29 PDs.

This is my current "possession" experiment:

Level 28

Strength: 13
Speed: 55.62
Agility: 61.33
Jumping: 50.31
Stamina: 33.43
Vision: 30.43
Confidence: 48.94
Blocking: 10
Catching: 73.43
Tackling: 8
Throwing: 9
Carrying: 27.78
Kicking: 8
Punting: 8

Possession Receiver Abilities 2-1-1-1-1
Speedster Abilities 1-0-0-0-0
Catch ball chance +11%

Season 6 was quite satusfactory. His yards/game were a bit lower than the #1 receiver who had a typical speed build but he had 50% more receptions and far fewer drops. His Season 7 performance is abysmal but he was buried on the depth chart and greatly outleveled for most of the season. He just recently transferred to a more level-appropriate league so it will be interesting to watch.

I only recently capped agility (1 game ago) and only capped speed earlier this year, so I rarely got separation. And our team is horrible - QB completes 37% of passes, punter throws 10+ passes a game, and no other WRs so I get thrown to a ton. I haven't been amazed by his production or anything but I'm not gonna bother judging it until next season when I'll probably be on a real team.

Lol, I didn't realise the punter was throwing passes as well!

Well like you said, it'll be better to see how he does next season with a better supporting cast.

Blame Bort and his horrible punter XP curve.

I don't think this build will be as good as a traditional one in the abstract, but I think it could be superior when combined with 3 other standard builds.

Exactly. I really liked how it performed last season when on a team with four speed builds. With all the Bort-changes, it remains to be seen how it will continue to perform.

and every team has one of these?

id say most teams have at least 1 CB with a similar build. the avg cookie cutter whore CB build is like 90 speed (w/ equip), 70 agility, 60 vision, 48 jump (often times even lower than this), 30 catching, 30 strength, and 30 tackle... but i think a lot of people are starting to get tired of the CB cookie cutter build and start to look a lot more at vision, agility and jumping rather than just speed.

Any1 ever tried experimenting with str into their possesion build?

I have it 40+ if that data helps, i'm sure there are players with it higher though.

This thread is good stuff

I love the idea of a good possession WR build and I'm working on mine myself. At 40+ str, do you see a lot of broken tackles at that level or is it more just to help you win the deflection rolls?

My level 36 WR still doesn't have 60 speed or agility...

http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=624191

The only thing that stops him, is the team running the ball.
