but speed > agility because you can do more than just get sacks.

Think about it.

If there was a legitimate DE coming out of college who had 4.2 speed off the edge, would he be the first overall pick?

In a heart beat.

That is most insightful what all was posted there and I have just quoted and I completely agree with it. Really, I just agree with it so much that I felt I needed to take the time to tell everyone else how much I agree with it and, in doing so, hoped to show some kind of appreciation to the poster that I have just quoted by copying his post and making this short post of my own, as well as tell the rest of the community my thoughts on the matter.

I'd rather have a DE than can Limbo under the Tackle, than having one run 100 miles an hour and run into the tackle... =D

but why blocking

It is believed that if you put some points into blocking it will help you break blocks, because if you know how to block you know how to get away from them.

i hate how on this game apperently blocking=shed blocking and carrying=catching

seriously....if carrying kicks in...it should be a fumble

He'd be turned into a ROLB and play in a 3 - 4 defense.

You can limbo all day but if you get past the blocker and don't have enough spped to get to the passer you are equally ineffective.

Just playing advocate.

Yeah and usually quarterbacks aren't fast at all, so With that logic allyou need is about 40 speed.

40 speed isn't going to get you to the QB in time very often...he doesn't run away, he throws it away and that's why you need decent speed...and jumping helps w/ some diving sacks from a distance.

40 speed is fine if the QB moves towards you (like stepping up in the pocket vs. a DT), but it's not going to get you there if he tries to evade you.

I have found that speed of 40 or 41 is about the bare minimum required to get the occasional sack. Below that, you really on get a sack if the QB runs into you in some fashion (usually due to pressure from somewhere else).

Below 40 and you pretty much don't get there at all.
