If Bort would allow offseason friendlies, or do the obvious thing and make this official, it would be best to do this immediately after the league championships.

Considering the situation, I think the organizers have done a very good job bringing together some of the top teams into this tournament. You dont get to the top of your league without being pretty competitive, so I am sure everyone will be trying their best in the World Cup.

World Cup. LOL. Lets think about this. This is based off of FOOTBALL. Yes so shouldnt this be the Goallineblitz Bowl or something??? I mean, ask most true Football fans about the World Cup and they could care less.

Anyone seen the commercial with the forum including Peyton Manning and the guy asks you do you mean football or soccer and Manning cracks up. Hilarious.

I never knew World Cup was patented by Soccer.... in fact a lot of sports have a world Cup these days..

Reality is that some of you are posting just to bitch about something... its easy to snipe fromt he sidelines when you are not putting in any of the work...

another reality is that a lot of players in this game are all over the world.. on my own team I have guys repping 4 continents.. diversity is good.

Good job to the guys who are trying to float this, and are putting up the work..

If someo f you want to bitch, suggest something that would help, instead of just sniping like the ugly girl who doesnt get a drink bought for her at a bar...

That's the idea, but it takes commitment on the part of the owners.

Sledge from USA Pro, for example, didn't want to be a part of it, so they took the runner-up from last season, the SA Saints. Is it perfect? No. It's a good place to start, though.

That is exactly what we did, in Eastern Europe the Champion team gutted (???) we were the runner ups, we accepted.

I know there are allot of thing "not perfect" about this... But there are allot of thing that are right.

We have the beginnings of a post season tournament, with the top team (available) from last season, REPRESENTING EACH LEAGUE. Maybe this off season Bort will allow off season friendlies, or even better, make this official. I have suggested taking the conference Champions, and having a 16 team tournament this off season.

And those of you suggesting the world cup has allot of qualifing, we had a 16 game qualifier to get in (regular season). if that makes some folks a little happier about the name.

Glad to see the efforts of several Pro League champions to put together an inter-regional tournament is coming to some sort of fruition this season. Most observers probably won't appreciate just how hard it has been to convince championship teams to dedicate the time to compete outside their own regions, as well as put their reputations on the line in a tournament that offers no formal reward. There were still a couple of cases where other regional representatives were needed (for example, where defending Pro League champs have been gutted).

Thanks to all the those who are participating, and a special thanks to the guys who put in the time to organize it! I'm excited to see how this turns out and hope it becomes a continuing GLB tradition.

It's probably tough because it's so useless.

You realise that America are actually current champions, having won the American Football World Cup (also known as the IFAF World Cup and Gridiron World Cup), right?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Football_World_Cup

Granted, it's still in it's initial stages (it's the third time it's been held and about 20 teams took part), but it's a World Cup for American Football.

Player eligibility
The national team was selected to encompass a cross-section of amateur football in the United States, and as such USA Football used a strict criteria to select team members. Interestingly, this does not allow the top American football players in the United States to compete as the restrictions include:

Professionals from any US or Canadian league were ineligible
Player must have graduated from college - current college players were ineligible
All levels of NCAA and NAIA athletics were required to be represented, not just DI-A
Players must be no more than 1 year removed from college

I'll admit my bias. Never had a player/team in EE Pro, but I've had first hand experience with the Yetis (obv) and the Santiagos.
