We also have ideas for other things to keep the average player interested, but that's not ready for testing yet.

There's a reason we are Alpha testing it before releasing it. They told us we could share whatever we wanted with you, but had they told us we shouldn't say anything until Alpha was almost over, that would have been better. A little misinformation goes a long way.

well except that would have been super awful. Unless of course you guys weren't allowed into the game for a full season.

Seems like a lot of really odd numbers to play with on those games....I don't really understand the concept.

at least for now we have 10 team leagues

I'm interested to see what Bort goes with for playoffs. 3 playoff games could mean:

championship: 2 teams
semi-final: 4 teams
first round: 8 teams (basically everyone in the league lol)

or

championship: 2 teams
semi-final 4 teams (2 winners from round 1 and 2 bye-teams)
first round: 4 teams (+2 others who are on bye as the 1 and 2 seed)

I would hope leagues go to 16 teams at the very least. Even if it was 8 team conferences or 4 team divisions. 10 just sounds stupid in all respects.

if that is the situation and they're planning 10 team leagues, I would guess it's a direct play against the general problem that most season games are meaningless. By trimming the # of season games you can keep motivation higher (less season burnout) and the games are now more important being 1 of 9 instead of 1 of 16.

The regular season games are meaningless because of competition not because of the number of teams. If the competition is supposed to be relatively equal in most standards based off easier building and tactics than they shouldn't really be worried about that aspect. That being said to do 10 teams and make it a 6-8 team playoff is pretty fucking LOL.

I think more people are worried about stat representation in comparison to real life than they are regular season cares. They want to set bench marks for their players. Having a 16 game season makes absolutely the most sense in any standard. It is what people relate to. But I would certainly love a division aspect over a conference aspect.

+1 for divisions and a 16 game season

Not to mention if 16 games is the bench mark for superstar players than why wouldn't you do a league that revolves around that aspect? 10 just seems rather silly and makes things truly messy. I can't even play in a 10 team fantasy football league...it is awful.

Every three days, you have a league game, a ladder game, then a free day.

League games have a bye week before playoffs.

Is that a lock or still being tested?
I hope for a 16 game season

I'm admittedly not 100% sure about the numbers, but I think they are accurate. Would need Bort to verify.

The general idea is emphasizing ladder games and making them an actual part of the schedule. That accomplishes a few things, one that it helps ensure that every team more or less always has a competitive game every few days, and it helps give teams that don't make the playoffs, or lose in them, meaningful games to look forward to during the time. Players also get XP for ladder games.

Leagues themselves are also a lot more static than GLB, and you will generally play with the same group of people all throughout your team's career.

We think the league structure helps bring back the rivalries and knowing your opponents of the pyramid structure from the early days of GLB, while the ladder improves on the competitiveness that the cloud structure hoped to achieve. Kind of a best of both worlds type of deal, with added benefits.
