I do kinda want to do some sort of voting thing. Maybe we could take the top 5-10 guys in each position and open it up to voting by the users who have teams or players in that league? Dunno...maybe that would encourage too much campaigning on the forum and voter fraud?

Yes, also most players get bitter when a team "pads the stats of a player" http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=1046440 I have a rb with 2k more yards than next closest yards in a capped league, and 40 more td's then the next closest guy, and if you left it up to voters I wouldn't get in. We are also 11-0 but somehow they wouldnt put me in probowl.

+1 But.....

Im going to be honest I didn't read through all 23 pages, so if this has been discussed just tell me. I like it, but here are some flaws/ideas.

People will become even more selfish. Some players play to win as a TEAM, some people play for THEIR stats. Some people will figure well since my team is bad and wont go anywhere, why not play for stats and a pro bowl. I just think some people will value personal achievements over a team achievement. I mean when you ask real NFL players im sure 9 out of 10 will take a Superbowl over a Pro Bowl.

But on a more positive note....

The teams record should be a slight factor too. In real life I know its not a huge deal, but ive been in leagues where these gutted teams have a good player or two on defense who just racks in his whole teams defensive stats. Then his teams offense goes 3 and out, putting him back on the field to just pad his stats. I know he can't do it alone, and shouldnt be punished because his team is bad, but it usually flex's his stats upwards because of no competition.

Oh and Fame could be factored in someway? Seeing how the popular players usually make the probowl.

I haven't edited the OP since fame came along... maybe a small factor such .001 times fame added on.

+1 to the OP but I don't think fame should factor in at all. That is my biggest problem with the NFL Pro Bowl. Not at all about performance, all a popularity contest.

Thats true, it gets out of hand when the WHOLE Redskins team is voted in, but I was thinking it could be a tiny factor, possibly even a tie breaker?

Perhaps only team owners from opposite conference or possibly another league. That way hatred for a particular team in forums won't affect the voting.

The forumlas have a bit more work to do on your part : Pancakes allowed, catches allowed etc.

Also another idea is simulated voting throughout the season based on current scores. You increase the max voters as the season progresses and as you move up throught the leagues.

Every team should have at least 1 player in the pro bowl.
Would it be possible to have voting and stats both be factored in to a selection?
On the downside there might be great players on bad teams that don't have the stats to qualify.
As far as voting bias is concerned in alot of voting based awards you are not allowed to vote for anyone on your team or yourself.

I love the idea and the fact that you have come up with a formula for this but any formula would have to take into account the record of the players team.

great idea +1

Let's do it. Anything to expand on league competitiveness is cool by me.

I don't think they SHOULD. What about those slow build teams? Nah uh. In real life, some teams have 8+ players in the Pro Bowl while others have 0. I don't think there should be a spot for every team.

Might have been mentioned already, but why are PD's not included in the calculations for defensive backs?
