-1. Freezing your account on virtually no notice would severely screw over the team owners who have hired your players.

I'd prefer to have the number of training points increase to 28 or so. Then, you could get someone you trust to log in every 2 weeks and follow a simple set of instructions for training / boosting the players.

And this is from someone who spends months working offshore with no internet.

Allowing military to freeze their accounts is a fabulous idea.
I've been deployed 4 times since 9/11 and not only is it tough to get on the net,
when you do its usually a military computer that blocks all the usual porn stuff, chat rooms, and game sites.
on the rare occasion when you can find a commercial internet connection its usually in some backwater berg where 200 people are fighting over a 1MB upload connection and you can't get a modern website to load fast enough.
I've been on GLB for about 4 months now and I'd hate to lose my players if I end back up in ass-crack-a-stan this december.
this should be done, period.

This is what happens when lazy people don't even bother to read the OP. He said for players that are NOT CURRENTLY ON TEAMS. Your criticisms are worthless when they don't even respond to the facts at hand.

Stop shouting. Generally when people post in such a ridiculous style I find that there is very little substance beneath, as is the case with your post. Engage your brain before you become irate next time.

FYI, I did read the OP, which includes this line: "so i get my owner to release my players". Can you imagine the problems that would start with people demanding their player release, the owner standing their ground as they didn't sign the player to be bailed on at no notice, support being pestered by someone who needs to get a release to freeze their players, and only has 24 hours to do it? It is a disaster waiting to happen. And that is before people start to exploit the account freeze option to get back at others despite not actually needing the service.

I am sympathetic to people spending time away from the game. I had to get rid of half my players as the training instructions for my little bro were getting too complicated, missed out on training every now and then, and got a load op SP spent where I didn't want it. I'd prefer though that any solution to this would actually work, and not the crap suggested here. There are a world of other possibilities, a higher cap on training points, a 'future training / boost' option where you could set out your player development for the next few months and leave it on automatic, the possibility to transfer training (and boost) responsibilities for each player to a nominated GM of the team he is on. All of these, which of course should be developed further, would be preferable to people demanding that their players be released to unsuspecting owners, and then throwing a hissy fit to support when it is pointed out that they are acting unreasonably. Do I see this type of in depth discussion in here, with regular updates in the OP? No. If this is not happening, then there is no point whining to Bort and the admins that this suggestion is good to go. It isn't.

As this currently stands, this in an unworkable suggestion. The OP has a huge void of information and all I see are a load of people whining because they think that if the marketing for the idea is good enough and there are enough +1s then it should be implemented. I'd go as far to say that, in its current form, this suggestion shouldn't even be epic and is characteristic of the popular but unworkable ideas which clutter up the epic suggestions forum and make it harder to find the real gems.

Still, let's all spam some more private forums, put another few pages of +1 in here, and then forget about the valid criticisms of the idea all over again, eh?

+1, especially since I got a semester for school that is gonna, frankly, kick my ass. Would love to have the last 2 monthes (one full season) to just be able to concentrate on school.

+1

There are many reasons someone might want to freeze his account. Extended vacation, school, armed forces. Good idea.

But not understanding that the idea, as it currently stands, is unworkable.

If you read my post again, and actually make it to the third paragraph this time, you'll notice that I too understand "life happens".

"Class act!" ... Pathetic.

I have to say I agree with mandyross here. It's a good idea in theory so that people don't get screwed over in player development and/or turned off from the game if they lose access to the site for a while. Life happens, school, service, lost internet connection, whatever. It would be great to have something that gave people a chance to still build their players correctly even with this.

HOWEVER, mandyross hit a few good points about people using it to try and hurt teams for perceived wrongs, and screwing over teams that the players are currently on (and yes I read the OP as well but still agree that it would hurt the teams when players ask to get released on short notice and owners have to find a replacement quickly that likely won't fit team strategy as well or just be a player short, assuming they actually agree to release the player).

This needs to be a lot more thought out. I don't care for the idea of being able to set up your players' development in advance for a couple months or whatever because that would lead to a lot of people abusing the feature and ending up with a shit-ton of inactive players on teams that wont be there to update tactics and stuff but will still develop their player, just not worth it imo. Personally it would also be a bit of an issue to have someone else control my players' development while I was away. That basically kills the whole point of having a player that you get to build after all.

So honestly I can't come up with a way this might actually work. I think it would kind of have to be by request basis but if someone's on short notice than that would be difficult to do. Maybe combine the ideas and be able to designate someone else to explain the situation to whatever person got put in charge of temporarily freezing the accounts? I don't know how big the demand for this would be, especially with a min time limit of 2 months or so, but I don't think there would be so many that putting a couple people in charge of handling requests would be too much work.

Anyway, not saying my ideas are particularly brilliant or anything but this does need more discussion than just everyone putting a +1 and moving on with their life. More discussion will inevitably lead to that one brilliant post that will actually put this good theory in a workable format. So if you actually do want this to have any chance of getting implemented in the future at least make some sort of contribution to a discussin on how things could work.
