Whats wrong with him? he's only lvl 7. What is there to fix, you havent really started yet. Dont put any points into SA's. Keep all your EQ in one attribute. I'd suggest working on Agility now, train vision, strength and tackling. Once agility is soft capped, work on vision. At this point you can start going what ever direction, your going to take him.

Ding ding ding. Exactly.

"(1) Don't pump strength to more than 25.
(2) Don't pump tackling to more than 35."

That nonsense is the reason powerbacks annihilated most linebackers. This guide was teaching people to build their linebackers to be like cornerbacks. Absolutely worthless.

You two morons and your mutual admiration society please go read the ONLY bolded portion of the original unedited post. This was not some endgame be-all destination build post. Your reading comprehension almost outweighs your post-assassination ability.

This is probably the source of the problem. It is not the powerbacks, it is the linebackers. Everyone builds their linebackers like hybrid safeties.

It has been lingering in the linebacker forum and apparently many people believed this advice. Unfortunately at the end of the op the author did not say

ps you need tackling to make tackles...

Shrug, on one of my teams there are two LBs with 60 str, 65 tackling and they missed over 50% of their tackles this year against power backs.

I've seen this across 3 Pro Leagues that I have linebackers in. So if this is the case then why are my linebackers being singled out. If you actually read the post, it gives season by season adjustments and suggestions on where the beat upcoming nerfs and where to take a LB BEYOND LEVEL 20. Such as taking tackling to the softcap soon after. But I'm sure all of these detractors read that prior to making such asinine evaluations.

For my 3 Pro League linebackers.
(For purpose of argument "tackling successfully" = % of tackling opportunities made where a Tackling Opportunity is either a tackle or a missed tackle. Since my LBs are faster and more agile than hell, I imagine they are getting to more tackling opportunities than even an above average LB. Also each of these Pro League LBs has a champ team trophy within the past 2 seasons)

----------------seasons 1-6. season 7 Career tackling rate
Maximus--------98.1% 85.1% 91.7%
Rod Long-------96.5% 79.2% 93.6% and if you take out one weird game from season 7 he tackled at 89%
Sak----------------93.9% 93.5% 91.2%

When comparing career vs. season 7 tackling rates,

Max went down 13%
Rod went down 17% or only 8% if you take out his one really weird game.
Sak went down 2.5%.

Doesn't really look like LBs with strength between 35-45 and tackling north of 50 were the problem now does it. . .
I congratulate those who posted better or improved tackling ratios, however i don't think an average of 7-10% more missed tackles by my LBs were the cause of power backs being ridiculous.

Yet they still produced on a high level and have for 7 seasons. Show me another build style for any position that has had a manifesto presented to benefit younger players which has produced at a high level without being nerfed for 7 seasons. Thanks in advance.

ninja edit: That post was originally written to help younger players get their linebackers to a point wherer they were playable and didn't ruin their build and competitiveness over their first few seasons by softcapping strength first. I have never advocated slowbuilding linebackers or taking one stat to a softcap and then switching as I felt that they needed to be balanced but fast.

Any thoughts to my response from another thread?

bah I basically agreed with the premise of the original post, yet had enough sense to softcap strength and tackling at some point. Do I feel sorry for the people who got destroyed by power backs because they built one dimensional players?

No.

Its the softcap and switch approach that has killed performance for LBs more than anything else. I gave them the frame for their house and when they went to build the rest of their house out with 1/4'' drywall, they bitched about the frame. Go figure.

It's even worse than that though, people saying that you have to have speed to 68 or even 71 or whatever before you stop working on it? I mean that can work great I'm sure if you do it right and have the right team and situation. But if you have 3 LBs on your team that are level 40 with 100 speed and 30 tackling and you're going to complain?

My 46 LBs didn't start taking speed to the 3rd cap until around level 42-44. These aren't DEs where you can concentrate on only a couple of categories.

I play in a lower league than you... I don't have the Bucks to buy my Boosts... but I do disagree w/ some of it.

Heres examples of my LB catching and taking Down RB that are better than me
http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=1124360

Your LBs are Safeties... I can't believe that w/ that Low strength that your not getting beat up by Combo and Power Backs.

I have less than a 3:2 Speed to Agility and have soft-capped strength a while ago... and my guy is doing great

Well you play in a level-appropriate league regardless. You better believe that my guys aren't getting beat up by power backs, in fact they make bigger plays more often on them then other linebackers.

Congrats on your LB doing ok but you still aren't getting FF, PD, Sacks, Ints, and TFL numbers like my guys. Not even in the same stratosphere and I am playing against much better competition. What is really to disagree with at this point. . . seriously.

The last guy to try to poke holes in this said I wasn't getting any sacks with my guys. That is all he could come up with. So I fixed my AI so that he was blitzing more than 0% of the time, and now he is a pass rush monster on top of everything else.

I remember this thread, as soon as I read the guide and saw the results Rob was getting I knew that something had to be wrong w/ the sim. I mean come on, an LB w/ 40 Strength & 50 Tackle should not take down an RB w/ 90 Strength.

You got to think thats something wrong w/ the system when LBs that have the strength of common CBs... (infact it sounds like your LBs are just CBs w/ a little extra Tackling and less Catching/Jumping) are making plays against RBs with 40 to 50 in the strength field. In reality, 2 of those LBs would be crashed and maybe the 3rd one would trip up such an RB. Glad u found a flaw in the system and exploited it...
This is why I don't spend my money on this.

Either there was a nerf for these builds a season ago or RB builders read the thread and figured out that if they build up their Strength they'll be breaking hundreds of Tackles. Robs LB are in the Mid 40s, ofcourse their successful... most 40ish players are successful or else they start over. But yes, LB Makers, following the early advise did work once; but not anymore... now that advise should be placed in the FS Zone. Powerbacks are on the rise and if you want to stop them, you need strength. Speed of mid 80, Agility / Stren / Vision should be about equal; mid 60s; Tackling can still stay at the 50s. Toss in some Jumping & Confidence and you'll be successful & avoid the LB SAs until high levels (wish I knew this back then).

So, following your advice, should I just keep pumping vision/Agility/Speed? (Tackling will not be touched for a very long time.)

Go speed cap agility cap str cap.Work on vision later levels. Linebackers only really need capped vision. no use capping vision way early, when you can cap str and tackling and get level gains there.

I know it's unorthodox, but it's how I did my S.S. and he turned out great.
