The change log/admin announcements are a step in the right direction, but only if utilized in a timely manner, which sometimes happens and sometimes does not. Then there are the forums, same thing there as far as timeliness of accurate information being put forth rather than conjecture by a mod or multiple mods. More than once have I seen a mod start a thread about a particular sore spot (in the eyes of the average GLBer that has more stake than just players) only to find out that Bort did not go that route with his plans. How confusing do you think it is to read through 87 pages of posts only to find out the OP was completely off base?
I am sure you will get different answers if you polled the owners/active GMs and just those with players, but I can speak for myself that the lack of proper communication is among the 2 biggest reasons I no longer own a team and am now simply living off the flex of retired players. The question that we have to ask ourselves is, how did we get into this situation in the first place?
Two seasons ago, I warned that, because of the MVP mess, because of the lax promotion regulation, we were potentially going to have a problem.
Last season, I wrote a lengthy post in suggestions to make sure that everyone understood the problem and to call on other users to try to deal with it. I've been heavily criticized because I called for the adjustment of the MVP formula.
We did not set up a truly serviceable communications framework to deal with these problems. And unless we are holding ourselves accountable day in, day out, we aren't doing it right.
So there's no doubt that we have a long way to go. And, obviously, stricter interpretation and consolidation of the various parties that weren't doing their job that have brought on this crisis will alleviate the damage.
But as silly as it sounds, I have a fundamental belief in the game that Bort has going here. He is dedicated to making it as good as it can be. And I still believe the best days are ahead of us.
