goal line?
4-3 with everybody blitzing?
3-4 full blitz?

I don't know...intuitively that's right but in practice goalline seems to be a way to give up 2.5-4.5 yards every play - enough for the offence to get lots of first downs.

Goaline's gonna give up the TD if they break through. If that happens even 5% of the time, that's 21 points on 60 snaps, even if you drop them for a loss the other 95%. Cover 1 is much safer. If they break through, you're just giving up the 1st down.

I would run a short coverage cover1 4-3 and blitz the SS and the LBs with a center (no shift). You absolutely shut down the middle, but the FS is still there just in case.

Blitzing the SS is too risky in the real games. The TE is left wide open.
Just play a Cover 1, Man, In Box, Short.
Also, blitzing the LBs isn't always a good idea - in fact I wouldn't do it (no more than one LB). A lot of times the RB will make a cut and get past them and pick up a big gain. You are better off letting the LBs play gap control and staying a little back off the LOS.

Now as you guys sure all have watched the USA Pro Championship - especially the Detroit Lions and Philadephia Pushover game...

Any new ideas?

I think you need to show them a link to a play that shows this defense in action....
