I must admit the team I am most interested in is Detroit. Their only two losses so far are to NBSK and NH, and almost every game on their remaining schedule could completely change the playoff picture in the East. Their roster looks solid but the results of the next week or so will show everyone whether they are for real or not.

Just thinking about it now, given that the model has no data on inter-conference matchups, then it must be comparing the top of each league based on what it sees as a spread within each conf. Basically, the model sees more general parity in the East and more clustering at the top in the West. So the best of the west it predicts will beat the best of the East. But I would also guess that it would predict the middle of the east would beat the west.
