It doesn't even look like the new owner of DLJ is even trying. He's signed only four guys, his own players, at levels that have no chance in A, let alone Pro.

There are tons of high level guys out there, and he's got $14M in the bank. Time to start using it to field a competitive team. Even if he's counting on relegation, he'll still get killed in AAA, and likely killed again in AA. Who wants to wait three seasons to even field a competitive team?

'Cuz high level guys want to contend for a championship, not be stuck in a mediocre team.

Not entirely true. There are a ton of high level mercenaries in this game that love their play money. Your owner can tell you that. How many FAs did Justin lose that went to BBB for a bigger bonus?

It's a general trend. Even when I recruited for some teams, some players did demand a ton of cash. One wanted the max bonus and salary as a LB 2 levels lower than most of the guys on DLJ. But most of the other guys responded with "Want to be on a contender."

I don't understand this "want to be a contender" bullshit. Why would you wanna jump on the coattails of another team? Why not just play to MAKE a team a contender instead of following elite players to ring-chase. Very pathetic IMO.

Ask Randy Moss.

Or to go to another sport:

Gary Payton, Alonzo Mourning, Antoine Walker...

For the record, it is pretty crappy to ring hop.

Randy Moss was a subtle (too subtle?) dig at Pats fans actually. Had I said Rodney Harrison or Corey Dillon (hooray Corey Dillon!) then that would have been a ring hopper.

And I disagree, especially in a case like Corey Dillon. Guy had HoF talent and was on one of the worst teams ever. He deserved his ring, even if he was "riding coattails". Gary Payton too.

Admittedly a Seattle homer, I be feeling their pain. Fuck the NBA, it doesn't exist for me anymore BTW.

(ahem)

the OFG from AAA2 are willing to move up to Pro if Sparta wants to get relegated early and avoid triple digit losses every game.

I think that'd be a great idea actually

Frankly, it's only a matter of time before they get here anyway.

Except that Randy Moss had a record-breaking season. These guys don't wanna be "the man." They wanna stand behind "the man" and reap the rewards of winning. Like I said, pathetic.

Take my player, Angry Islander. Not an original Ace, in fact I used to bust Flames balls for owning so many players. But when I became a FA in season 2 and got a ton of offers, I wanted to be on a contender, so I chose the Aces. Am I pathetic?

I'm sure that $300,000/yr. he paying you doesn't hurt either.

I honestly don't see the problem with anyone owning your whole team. I wouldn't want to, but that doesn't mean I care if someone else does. For the record, three guys are on my own team, two are backups and one is the punter.

Did some snipping to shorten the thread.

Actually that contract was offered today, I don't know why, sent him a PM about it, we'll see. I was getting ~100k a year I think, but the "money" really doesn't mean anything to me. I guess maybe it will when I can buy an e-Ferrari or whatever, but for now I'd rather the team kept it and bought more stadium.

One thing I always do when offered an Ace contract regardless of terms is accept it, then ask questions. I like being an Ace and intend to stay one as long as possible.

But that ain't getting me any closer to an answer to my question. Am I pathetic for hopping on the Aces bandwagon in season 2 because I wanted to be on a contender?

EDITED because it read like crap. I'm trying to eat lunch and type at the same time, and the cookies distracted me...
