Jumping helps catch a bad long snap (punter) and also a punter kicks with one leg while jumping with the other, to make it a whole-body motion. They don't get 'lifted off the ground by the force of their kick' as someone else stated....that would just be silly. I don't know how much jumping would help a placekicker, I've never seen the plant-leg leave the ground on a placekicker.

If you've seen a punter punt, then this was evident to begin with.
how so? I have never seen a punter jump. I have seen a punter get lifted off the ground because of the force of his kicking motion but that is not jumping.
Please tell me you are kidding. They jump while kicking for more power. That isn't from the force of their kick alone

Please tell me you're kidding. They aren't jumping while kicking. The jump at the end is a combination of kicking force and probably a balance mechanic.

yeah and what benefit would a kicker get from hopping on the plated foot, none that is why it is not a jump.

punters speed = Leg speed perhaps.
I am sure also since most Punters in real life have to continue and play until the runner is tackled, speed and agility help after the punt. Agility may also help get the follow through but who really knows.

I would think that speed would help with punters getting the snap and kick off quickly so it doesnt get blocked. Not that it matters right now in the game.

The exception was Reggie Roby. He is the only punter I can remember that kicked with his other foot on the ground. He boomed them too, best punter I ever saw other than maybe Ray Guy. Too bad Reggie died so young. I think that Roby was on roids. So much power.
