I got started down this path by Madden simulation leagues. If no one knows what tat means, you'd get 1 player. He'd be created in one of the Madden games (like 2005) and his baseline attributes would be 20. Then you'd do, essentially homework, like writing articles and doing some graphic design, to earn points. Those points would get added to your player, on the website. Then some poor schlub would have to take all of the updates from the website and update the Madden file, 1 player at a time.
Games would be played, and the results typed out play-by-play style back onto the website.

Well... if we're going down that kind of road I started when there was that vibrating Football game of the late 70's... and Strat-o-matic football... there was this game with offensive and defensive playcards you slid into a reader then bounced a little ball on a slider to determine the outcome... then there was fantasy football and Techmo and, and, and...
