How would they possibly do this? What is interesting about building in GLB1 is exactly what they tried to remove in GLB2 because new players found it too difficult to master. Or at least that was the argument.

That argument was always incredibly stupid.

Ya it is kind of an integral part of game planning. Picking a play from a package. It is a wonder why a person who largely spends most of his time playing this game from his phone and finds coordinating to be the most interesting aspect of either game would think that is neat....

Also watching a GLB2 game from my phone is more interesting than watching it on my computer. I feel the opposite about GLB1 replays. Nothing better than watching those from my computer.

I don't think the argument was ever new players couldn't "master" it. It is just kind of a ridiculous barrier. Same thing with AI's. All these things interest us because we have been here for seasons. That isn't to say I think GLB2's building phase is very fun. I was very openly critical about the ease of building on the test server.

GLB is way better than GLB 2.
The design of GLB2 is incredibly poor and just makes the user experience horrible.
Sure, there are some elements that are better (increasing the cost of taking an att higher is a lot better than ALG for example) - but Im not fighting my way through the design for that.
Bort should never have caved into all the "when will Beta end?" crap on GLB. He should have just kept on pushing through changes (however major) on here. People would have whined (of course) but it would have resulted in a much better end product.
Instead, he has ossified this version in an unfinished and sub-optimal state, and has a newer version that, while it contains some improvements, is just sucky to use.
End result: Two games that are both OK, when he could have had one excellent game.
Shame.
Ill still play here because I enjoy it, but it is frustrating to know that it could have been so much better, and could still be improved so easily.

how many people are still playing classic? are most that left here to play 2 playing both or have they strictly moved on? the forujm activity is so reduced from the old days that it's unrecognizable. i guess i can answwer my own question
btw, after coming back based on the lured of 2 and being wholly disappointed, i vote for classic. 2 may improve but it's not supposed to be what classic became.

BUt it would have to be worded something like this:
Choose one of the following:
-GLB 1
-GLB2 because it comes with shiny things, free candy, and reach-arounds. It's really the only responsible choice if you don't want to become a wife beating farm animal molester.

Maybe it's because the dots are so young over there, but what is the worst thing about 2 for me so far is that nothing I do to the dots seems to have much of an effect when watching the sims or looking at their stat lines. Maybe that will be better as the dots progress. I'm still giving 2 a shot, but am not all that impressed so far.

There's still enough left playing -- right now -- to keep things interesting at the moment.
Forum activity can be mis-leading... consider these three factors that can lead to less forum posting even if the number of people playing the game itself remains the same:
1.) Former frequent posters who used to get into so much trouble with the mods that they got tired of it and stopped posting... but still play the game itself.
2.) Over-sensitive souls who used to post more but got tired of dealing with some of the trolls on here and stopped posting... but still play the game itself.
3.) Many of the old debates and threads were because people were trying to figure out different aspects of the sim, and while the game was still in Beta and changing frequently, there were always new things to figure out. Now that the sim is more stable and people have caught up on figuring the sim out, there's a lot less to debate and discuss than there used to be.
So, forum activity in and of itself isn't the most reliable indicator of the game's health.
What is? Well...

Again, I'll point to the Palm Bay Palookas... when they hit Semi Pro 2 seasons ago, Season 37, there were 3 leagues: Elite, Competitive, and Terribad. But only Elite and Comp were full... Terribad only had a couple of human teams in it, and the rest were CPU-owned. And remember... that batch of teams started out with 6 full Rookie leagues. So, over the course of 5 seasons, only slightly more than a third of the teams that started at the same time as my Palookas were still in existence 5 seasons later. And a decent chunk of those remaining teams ended up folding later.
You're gonna be lucky to see 25% of the current batch of Rookie teams survive to reach the top... nowhere near 75%. 25% of 80 teams is 20 teams... barely enough to fill a conference, not enough to fill a league.
.....
Now, I happen to be in the camp that thinks GLB isn't dead yet... still plenty of people playing at the moment, and I think there's enough die-hards around to keep this thing going a bit longer. But 'round 'bout Season 46 or 47 or so, the survivors from this season's batch of Rookie teams are gonna get to Natty Pro. That'll only be about 20 teams, nowhere near enough to replace the teams and dots that are going to be hitting decline and retiring about that time. That's when things will start collapsing, a little over a year from now.
And to be honest, I'm probably optimistic with that projection. It could happen sooner if people start bailing out early.
The lack of activity in the Rookie Leagues is a LOT scarier to me. But the full effects of the current lack of Rookie League teams and dots now won't really be felt until that batch of dots and teams gets closer to Plateau, 7 or 8 seasons down the road. That's basically a year from now.
So, GLB1 still has some life in it for now, and I'm gonna enjoy it as long as I can.
