I've tested quite a few games and the one thing that seems to always exist...people that are unappreciative of the time spent by the testers that are simply trying to get the game as bug-free as possible for the public. It's usually less learning the game than it is checking for broken links and unintended outcomes.
I'll just be glad they are there to ask general questions of them and am extremely happy I didn't apply to test. It's a pretty thankless job.

Discuss how you VOLUNTEERED for the tester spot, no one held a gun to your head. To act like someone who has played any game doesn't have an advantage over someone who hasn't played that same game is just foolish.

Early on the testers and their group of friends will have the early advantage. Eventually others will figure it out and share it with their network. The ones who get screwed are people who don't spend every minute crunching numbers and those who aren't in the groups with these number crunching people.
The people who rely on information that's posted in the main forums are always behind.
Will they have an advantage? Probably. Is it feasible to release a game without alpha testing it? Not really. Could bort find people who know a lot about GLB who would be willing to alpha test the new game without playing it once they are finished? Probably not.

Bort couldn't easily said, don't say anything about what you see in Alpha. Testers could easily say, I'm not sharing anything with the GLB1 players who aren't testers.
The point here is that testers are sharing their experiences with the new game and providing a large amount of information back to those playing this game.
