Check the numbers. When someone in the WL tries to use it they get pretty high completions and yardage. It isn't any easier to get sacks against 5W than spread.

spread has better plays though. there are only a few routes out of 5wr that work fast enough to warrant using and most of the time you dont want to be using them against any decent blitz defense.

Spread definitely has better plays, but that's different from the false notion that 5W is unusable. Those instant blitzes don't exist anymore and haven't for a while now.
