Could it possibly be that the other team was using Auto-Adjust on offense, and it found a couple of plays that worked early on your D and started spamming them?

I've been on the winning side of this phenomenon before, and that's usually the explanation.

auto adjust also plays a part. once the AI finds a bruise, it punches the crap out of it and doesn't care if you cry uncle

like others have said, its a function of builds, morale, energy, AI settings, auto-adjust and possibly end-game VAs like second wind or slow starter

but beneath the whine, OP has a point somewhere, and I'd support doing something in-game to tone down the spirals OR, preferably, add something that gives a team a chance, like on-side kicks, a hurry-up offense, plays designed to get a short gain and go out of bounds, and improving time-out logic. problem with GLB is that once you are down by 2 scores halfway through he 4th its almost impossible to come back, and that's totally unrealistic.

Ok, lets break it down. To start the 3rd quarter the score was 17-6.

With 8:10 to go, this happens...

Can't blame anyone but the DC for that one. Single coverage with no deep help? 24-6

Your next drive was a 3 and out. The punt return left your opponent at midfield. They put together a six play drive to go up 31-6. They managed a couple nice plays, but nothing crazy. Your offense went 3 and out again which led to this...

Oops. 38-6.

From there, your offense posted another 3 and out. On their next drive they made a couple nice plays and it ended with a screen pass for a TD to start the 4th quarter.

Excellent blocking or bad defensive positioning? You make the call? 45-6

Another 3 and out by the OffTopica offense followed by a punt that netted only 18 yards allowed your opponent to start on YOUR 38 yard line. They managed one nice play during a 6 play drive to move the score to 52-6.

On your next drive you managed a couple first downs but couldn't score. Your defense then managed a 3 and out, but the ensuing punt put your offense inside the 10. Your ensuing 3 and out led to a punt from your 8.5 yard line which they returned to your 38...again. They managed another short drive for a TD. 59-6.

Your next possession was a 4 play drive that ended with a turnover on downs on your own 12.5. They scored on the next play (66-6...miracles happen?). Your following possession was a 4 play drive that ended with an interception on 4th down that actually gave your opponent worse field position than an incomplete pass. They scored on their next play (a 21.5 yard screen pass). 73-6.

In the end, you gave up 14 points on special teams, 7 points on a long pass, 31 points on good drives, and 21 points on bad screen defense/poor field position. Not a great game, no doubt, but the 4th quarter problems lie in your AI and the fact that GLB doesn't have a way to "take your foot off the pedal" late in the game unless a user builds that into their AI (which there really isn't an incentive to do since points against is a tie breaker and if you can run up the score on someone you're potentially helping yourself).

All that kind of stuff would just drive up scores and make morale spiral type stuff even worse. The problem really isn't that the game lacks those things. The problem really is that teams just don't value the attributes needed to keep games like that in check because it isn't always the case to be needed. Also that AI's aren't put in to be "safe" and keep the score reasonable. They are put in to try and make that valiant comeback!

Don't ignore special teams.
Defend the screen better (easier said than done).
Don't go for it on 4th down from your own 5 when there's no chance you'll win (or even get close).

I could probably go on.
