My advice to you would be just go with what you have and learn as much as you can about AIs and the custom play creator before next season. Help out the owner with recruiting so you don't have this same problem next season.
You currently have a bad situation as it looks like the owner is pretty inexperienced. You should talk to him about bringing someone in that has experience as an owner and a coordinator.

Yeah, that's not going to fly next season when the team is in silver. You will still face a number of CPUs but the top teams will be better. If you want to DC in anything other than casual you have to learn a bit about AIs and the custom play creator. Now is the perfect time to tinker around with things and figure it out.
I would strongly suggest talking to the owner about bringing in an experienced adviser to help him and you out with the team.

didn't think it was so complicated. i think i'll just play out this season with the basic presets then give up that position lol

You could go ahead and give up now, tbh. What you call DCing isn't really an improvement over not having a DC.
Not trying to be mean. It's just you shouldn't waste your time doing something you don't want to do if you're not really having any impact on the team anyway.

In PW and regular leagues the basic presets are miles and miles behind AIs + custom plays.

At this point, with the way CPU's are set up, you would be better off having the CPU players, then a newly created dot.

but we're playing mostly cpu teams. the one human team we play against is the last game of the year and they dont even have a DC. is it worth it to just mess around with basic presets just for the cpu games?

If you enjoy that, go for it. If you ever decide you want to be a DC then there are better things to do with your time.

I feel like I am trying to make a point, if you don't care, which it sounds like you don't, and if you are playing mostly cpu's, your basic AI will beat cpu teams in pw.
