It sounds like the only reason he wants it is to get his scrambling QB to run. Why not just set a rushing QB play? Oh wait, but then people will know he is rushing and you won't get a trick play that works every time.

The OP may not be a legitimate reason, but delaying so that a play can develop is.

I like the flee flicker option instead.

This...only my 2 soon-to-be 3 time OMvP rQB hasn't needed any trickeration to rip up the defenses he's faced, just good blocking.

So, I want to try and get my rushing QB to scramble on a pass play intentionally but my only option is to have him stare down a receiver that he hopefully won't pass to and set his tactics to Scramble often and Run often...on top of other purposes like letting a play develop if you see better opportunity for completions later in the play....

Where's Novus? Somebody get Novus.

No.

If there should be a delay, it should be for the HB, so the lead blockers have the time to lead block.

And that is what he's asking for... a better "progression" system. As a defensive minded guy, even I get why a QB would "delay" or HOLD off on his "progression" for longer than what I see them do now. Perhaps even using the "blank spot" to force a QB into holding his LOCK on a particular WR for longer than .5 seconds... either to cause the defense to shade towards his target... or to allow his traget a chance to COMPLETE his route (especially on those In and Out routes. Cuz right after the break is the best target time and it's not easy trying to set your progressions to perfectly match that break). It's not like he's (the OP) asking for something that EVERYONE will use... just something MORE we can all CHOOSE to use or not. And I'm good with having more options as long as it doesn't cause bugs or problems.

That is exactly why I said it is IMPORTANT that you place your progressions right and have the right tactics. You don't need a blank progression if you do things the right way.

I could definitely use this, although this problem can be solved with QB tactics, but you can't always get them to switch in time for a game, or sometimes you wish they would have variable tactics based on the play etc. Anyways, I support this suggestion.

next you'll ask for punt returners to wait for their blockers...c'mon, what is this, a football sim or something?

Except that tactic does not take into account situation. If you use open man, you end up underthrowing too many 3rd and longs because the QB dumps it off. If set for distance, then the wide open guy at 4 yards does not get the ball because you need 10 yards. If the tactic was set by play, then it would be fine.

I can see both sides on this issue, honestly.

It could lead to an increase in sacks as was pointed out earlier but it would allow the OC a bit more control without affecting player tactics as a whole. My question would be, how long would the QB look at "no one" when the blank was entered?

Sounds like you need to get more creative with your progressions. The only times you should be throwing 3rd and longs short are hurries and mass targeting slow poss WR's. Which doesn't matter if you have a blank progression or not. They are just open or you are hurried.
