It's just a vision thing. You can either get higher vision safeties OR put them closer to the LOS (so they are closer to the play).

So your telling me this is a lack of Vision by the FS, lol? http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=2375035&pbp_id=1926220 I'll PM the Agent and see if he will tell me his Vision, lol.

I'm not saying a dot will ever be perfect, but those types of behaviors are mitigated by higher vision. The dot has to pass certain checks to be moving in the right direction. That's all vision-based.

You're welcome to skim through my FS's plays (on Asau). Build should be open. He sits right around ~102 vision after Football Genius. I'm sure you'll still find the occasional slip ups. That's not the point.

It's not a vision thing. I get so tired of people always blaming vision for any odd behavior. It's an issue with coverage coding, but that's such an incredibly hard task that you can't really blame Bort for not doing it perfectly. Coverage pathing works pretty darn well most of the time, which is all we should be asking for.

We're not talking coverage (what corey provided). We're talking what sehorn listed (see first post on this page). It's all related to the safety reading the run.

In my observation, defensive players attempt to calculate an intercept point between the ball carrier and the end zone. When a call carrier is moving parallel (or close to parallel) with the end zone line the defender seems to "chase" more than intercept.

This is a pretty good example. Before the back cuts the FS is "chasing' him. Once the back cuts upfield the FS attempts to calculate an intercept point (twice) and ends up in chase position (again) and gets blocked by the FB.

Ideally the safety wouldn't get sucked up into the play like that. He would slide maintain backside contain or slide down the line and be in a position to make a play. I don't think that coding is in place and, honestly, would probably be pretty hard to get balanced if it was introduced.

Spot on analysis of what I have been seeing IMO.

Meh with the excuses on why it can't be done though. That is football and that is how the game should be played by safeties. An effort should be made to make the safeties react as they would in football.
