http://www.palomides.net/viewtopic.php?p=496720 here's some confirmation of what I remember reading....
"Post Posted: Mon Jul 28, 2008 11:11 am
how come no one puts points in confidence? bort has said repeatedly that it's the most underrated stat in the game and that it's used in pretty much every calculation"
"Posted: Mon Jul 28, 2008 3:16 pm
its probably why everyone thinks skills suck honestly, they're based in part on the governing attribute, but also in large part (from bort's mouth) on confidence
and since everyone in the game has like 12 confidence welp,"
I just want to know if I'm leading others astray or not. I know that in the interview I read it was a direct question: "What is the most underrated attribute?" to which Bort responded "Confidence." and then went on to explain it was the cause of many agents not understanding why their dots weren't performing as they expected or something to that effect.
Has confidence been nerfed since then and I missed it? Is the morale bar just there for eye candy? If those of you chillin' in WL aren't lying then I've just been pissing in the wind for years here. AND giving many others bad advice BASED ON BORTS COMMENTS.
God I'll be glad when I finally burn up all this flex I've accrued.......
Not that I don't believe those of you above, most of you are hanging out in WL, but I'd like to hear from someone on the GLB payroll explain the effect of morale loss on a players performance. With some hard #'s dammit.....

That link I posted is straight off the "Wiki" linked from the GLB toolbar.

dbreeze, you're putting WAY too much thought into this.
I'll say it again...

1.) If you don't think they matter, they matter more than you think.
2.) If you DO think they matter, they matter less than you think.
This really seems to be one of those areas where everyone gravitates to the extreme theories. And as usual, the truth lies somewhere in between.
You seem to be in Category 2. Most of the other people in this thread seem to be in Category 1.

Could I please just get some hard #'s?
I do appreciate the input Novus but I'm really fed up with the "hope you have fun trying to figure out how the game works because you're not going to have fun playing it like it has any semblance to the football you know..." approach we've been stuck with for so long here....

I'd be amazed if there are any hard #s.
There really aren't that many hard #s available about this game. Bort and Catch are usually pretty tight-lipped about specific formulas and values and what-not, and they're the only possible source for that sort of info anyway. If they haven't said anything specific about morale, then you're simply not going to find that information anywhere else either.
You're still WAY over-thinking this.

I'm just a team owner trying my hardest to give the agents who've entrusted to me the dots they've invested serious time and coin in the best chance for some success.

I would caution you from taking other people's word as to the value of a particular attribute's effectiveness or lack thereof. Confidence and morale can have a significant impact on a game but much of it's impact is dependent on the current situations being read within the sim.
We typically do not give out actual values as to what the % impact something has within the game. Much of this game is solved and we want to leave some things to the users to figure out on their own. The best advice I can offer is to watch how a dot with a low amount of confidence behaves within games and then compare it to a similarly built dot that has a higher amount of confidence.
That being said, Bort said that people undervalue confidence for a reason. I'd trust what he said on that.

And yet like half of your pro level dots have low 30s in confidence...

So which do I believe? Bort & co., or my lying eyes...?
GLB had better love their secrets enough to sacrifice my patronage for it.

Here's the thing, though... does anyone believe Catch is a good dot-builder? So maybe if Catch has Confidence in the 20s, that means we should all be taking it way higher!

Bort also said blocking helps the defensive linemen break blocks. Something along the lines of , To know how to block helps them know how to break blocks.

Preeeeeeeety sure Bort never said that.
Plenty of rumors that he said that, but if you're putting that much stock in something that someone else says someone else says someone else says Bort said, well, lolu.
