Yeah those first few seasons(rookie/prep/uni) playing zone is going to be a disaster for the most part and after rookie passing is so bad you should probably just be playing mostly man anyway.

about as well as m2m at the rookie level if that tells you anything

m2m is VERY poor on certain routes at rookie level..cant see how zone could be much worse

Because in Zone you have to worry about vision checks even more and by the time the defense realizes whats going on the offensive dot has ran by him. And using zones to try and stop rushing QBs is a terrible idea as well. Another thing that's awful is using QB spies because for some reason it makes the dots act retarded. At least with man coverage you have a chance of stopping ballcarrier.

dude this sounds like a contradiction when you talk about stopping RQBs and then promote man coverage at early levels, there is no man coverage for QBs(forget QB Spy it's useless), only blitzes or zones ...you really have no idea coz you haven't put this into practice at low levels have you? ...it may sound good in theory, but am sure that there would be some experienced peewee coordinators laughing at you right now!

I can't speak for the mid-higher levels, but at the lower levels, zone coverage works only if it's not pure zone. Zones work early on if all offensive receivers already have man coverage on them and the zones are used to provide extra coverage and to stop HB/FB outside runs. Like someone else said, I wouldn't use them to stop RQB's, but they stop all other outside runs well if you use them correctly.

Zones at low levels lead to many other coverage issues although they pasify the over runs quite a bit. They use to be the standard in peewee but they stopped being automatic vs. the outside runs so many went away from them.

Using a 100% zone defense doesn't really happen IRL either.

Just not a practical use in GLB as it is only used for deception of guys looking uncovered.
