Well, I never have but I'm sure one day it could happen. I doubt it, but ya never know.

How about this? I'll give it a +1 IF it's a selectable option and not a mandatory addition. That way if I, or Dub, wanna NOT have it on, then we can just leave it off. But if people (like you, Kelts) DO want this, then all you'd have to do is select the option on your homepage. This way us folks that want peace, can have it... and those that want PM's ASAP can have that as well.

or if it's that serious, have it where a text or SMS can be sent to a phone number anytime you receive a message or alert

Wouldn't your screen have to refresh if you wanted any kind of alert? How would that work if you were in the middle of updating your AI or watching a game? I guess I could see a pop-up of some sort, once you refreshed. But only if it was an option to turn on or off. I assume most, including myself, are fine with the way it is now.

Also, the text/sms idea has been brought up before and I believe that is NGTH.

Come on Kelts !! It's not that hard to hit F5 and refresh the screen. I'm sorry..... this is not a good idea IMO.
