So that really No, game was already in decline then as far as userbase and new users joining. It (the game) has come a long way since, and in good ways. Just unfortunate that they did not add the free player back then when they changed to age base leagues , would have kept some of the those non boosters around...but they would be free boosters.
Game now needs more sim changes every offseason. Stagnant sim is boring.

David Stern set tone when the game was booming. Many people don't like him, but the game needs guys to wear the black hat... i miss things like: "Fix your builds" or "Leg swept"
The game needs team based villains, not just forum warriors.... I think The League of Extraordinary Assholes rivalry versus The U is the perfect example of what the game needs.
Bout u?
I don't think this is the common held position. DSTern was kind of a 2nd tier owner who wasn't able to hack it sim biggest days. He showed up late to the game (not much of a factor till s15+) once most of the good agents had stopped playing. DStern was always regarded as a 2nd tier agent who brought a lot of care tho.
I think there were some elite agents out there early on that helped add to the excitement like pierra thomas, w_alloy, jamz. But it wasnt' till those kind of guys were mostly all gone that middling agents like stern or whoever started trying to make themselves front page.
