In your case, cap carrying.

I have 18 saved skill points. I can either cap agility at 60 and keep training carrying til 37 and cap later or cap carrying now and keep training agility til I have enough skill points to cap it at 60 later.
Not sure which route I should go.
Are you going to level up now? If so, cap carrying. Otherwise, cap NEITHER, and train carrying a bit more until the day before you are about to level/roll over, then cap.
The "spend the SPs when you can cap" should best be told as "spend the SPs when you can cap as soon as something other than SPs would change the attribute upwards" but it would be too long.
EDIT: Another way to look at it is to cap the attribute that is currently being trained at a lower efficiency.

MandyRoss laid out the build plan for his OG that has the highest SP value of any guard in GLB right now and he intense trained strength when it was in the 80's and he used skill points on vision and confidence from 23-48 and never trained them.
So many different ways to build

On the 5 major dot I pretty much intensed/normaled the first from 85 to 100, 5* enhanced, whilst spending SPs in the second and third. This one: http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=2357422
5* Spd, 3* Agi, 2* Cat, 1* Car/Sta/Str
Str/Sta/Car unlocked.
But generally though, for the other dots, when I did get round to multi a little later than usual it was basically first attribute - second attribute - other important attribute - rotating the scraps. And then I gave up thinking (as you can tell).

The G. I think it was intense train strength whilst spending SPs into it*** up to around 84, whilst 5*ing it as soon as possible. Then continue to intense strength until it was around 90, whilst spending SPs into blocking (starting to spend SPs in blocking way before it was at 30). Then I could unlock Str/Blk/Agi and multi at some point in the second season.
I shoult point out that I trained Agi and Blk light at the end in the range 85(ish)-94, 3* enhanced, for a nice little gain, this really seems to help at the end of the build.
Also, I think that 5* the first attribute is overkill, better to only 3* it possibly. And finally unlocking Strength for multi is maybe a little silly as it does go over 100 quite quickly, I'd possibly favour multiing 3 attributes at a certain point instead. And there has to be a way to get agility higher, maybe 5* it and have some training leeway at the end to have some fun with it. Quite a few things to make better for this build. But I won't do it, the people in this forum will.

Whodey, I'm sorry but there's no way to avoid saying one thing: Focusing on one attribute at a time after the first one is not ideal. Circle capping is more efficient. Maaaany people calculated it. You can too.
Funny thing is that the mandyross quote here doesn't say anything about the 2nd to 5th attributes, which are the ones that can be circle capped... He just speaks a lot about his primary.

define what you mean by circle capping

Moving to the next cap the attribute that is closest to it, instead of going 2-2-2-2-3-3-3-3-3-4-4-4-4 it could go 2-2-3-2-3-2-4-2-3-4 etc... (this is an example, it varies from build to build and player to player)
If two can be capped, raise the one that is giving you worse training gains (percentage multiplied by point SP-value).

ok
as long as it wasn't a straight 2-3-4-2-3-4-2-3-4 type I have seen some advocate lol
although if you are multi-ing 1-2-3 and rotating out the 4th, it can be just 2-2-3-2-3 type but yes, train at the best hot spot for each attribute you are training
