if lead blocking worked as well as you guys wanted the run game would be unstoppable. As bad as you make lead blocking out to be (especially with some super crappy BFB builds imo) the defense pursuit is just as if not more terrible.

i think its more play design then the actually fb. in the op the fb didnt even move until the hb touch the rock. how u expect him to beat the hb to the hole.
they shouldnt be any waiting on the fbs part at least on that play

they don't wait if you have the adequate vision and blocking to make the play. OP also hasn't mentioned where his blocking attribute is...from his bar doesn't seem very high.

I've gone to speed HBs for FB/QB outside runs and just watched this private replay(mebbe one of the Speyside Whiskeys is around): http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=2290192&pbp_id=2342798 QB run outside. Lead blockers HB and FB make it to the corner with only a FS left and the QB runs right past both into the FS while the HB and FB squabble over who was going to make the block(I guess). All high vision and plenty quick(they're in position to get it done), Yes, speed is a big help for these outside runs but it's not an answer for the basic problem that GLB runners suck at utilizing blockers.
Someone posted that originally runners did track/utilize/read the blocker but that it was scrapped for the path/waypoint approach.
Perhaps..... Bort could revisit the lead block reading approach and offer it as an option at play setup?
What we have now consistently sucks in appearance and results. It just ain't the way real football works............
Honestly The lead blocker/FB blocking is flawed. First step in fixing something is admitting it. From what i have seen it seems like they wont admit the fact that it is atrocious to say the least. Everyone keep making excuses for the blocker, it needs some work. My 2 cents

It seems it needs to work for lower level FB's but not the higher level properly built FB's. I have a level 22 blocking FB who has more speed and agility than our power back right now but the power back hits the hole before the FB. Its dumb!
But with that said.....a team with higher level players that I coach the FB works GREAT!! Lead blocks on both inside and outside runs.
I have just conceded to be patient and realize FB's at the lower levels suck!!

pretty much this. in the higher levels theyre okay, but down in prep right now, they do nothing. even on sweeps when they are ahead, they kinda just stop and the HB runs by them.

HB may have higher vision?
I noticed the HB actually begins to move as soon as the ball is "snapped", while the FB seems to be unsure or is looking into the stands at a nice looking young lady "oooooooo, ball was snapped! SHOOT!"
Then figures they will let the HB block for themselves... "you first, I insist" could be the caption to this play

i dont know any powerbacks that go vision in their top 4 skills.
carrying/strength>agility>speed. theyll both have shitty vision for a while

Here's the HB #'s
6'2" 230lb
Strength:
94.45
Blocking:
18
Speed:
140.45 (+46)
Agility:
90.26
Jumping:
36.26
Stamina:
68.26
Vision:
69.38
Confidence:
62.38
Not good enough? I recruited him just for this. Best I could find. Why can my QB zip right past them blockers but not whiff the CB?
Gaaahhhh!

i really don't understand your qualm here? You would rather the QB sit and wait for the HB to come and block someone?
Also cool...you want Bort to make a guy with 18 blocking free up your already somewhat OP qb running game.

Look, I realize that the FB's vision is not at 90, but it isn't like it's at 30 either.
This is a design play. The FB should not have to worry about what he is going to do. He has one job here - lead block for the HB. He should head for the point of attack as soon as the ball is snapped. If you want him to pass some vision check once he gets there (or to pick up some blitzer) fine, but he shouldn't have to pass some vision check just to know his assignment.

Vision helps a dot recognize when the ball is snapped, so if the HB has more Vision than the FB, the HB will recognize it sooner.
But as I pointed out earlier, your FB's Agility is also relatively low. And Agility plays directly into a player's rate of acceleration, especially from a dead stop.
So, there's probably a double-whammy going on here... he's a split-second slower to react to the snap than the HB is, and it takes him slightly longer to get up to speed once he recognizes the snap.
I do think FB blocking needs more tweaking, but I also think that people need to be smarter about how they build their FBs. Just because you think your FB has enough Vision and Agility to be a good blocker doesn't mean he actually does have enough Vision and Agility to be a good blocker.
People in here have posted examples of FBs with more Vision and Agility than yours making their blocks just fine. That should probably tell you something, glw.

He has one job...to do everything a blocking FB would do without having any skills of a blocking FB!
