Honestly, the way we build dots now is stupid, imo. Unfortunately Bort refused to do away with ALGs which has made today's builds "good" and builds from the early seasons "bad".

Well, two things.

First, even though many wanted to do away with the ALGs so that it was easier for newbies, an equally large band didn't want that. I guess bort chose the devil he already knew.

Second, define "now", because the way we build dots now is ... very similar to the way they've always been built. Hold onto SPs until we can cap, focus on effective training, etc...

Speaking from an outside perspective, I'm pretty sure they didn't want to remove the strategy behind building, which for most of the community is the reason they're here.

The build process has evolved. In the beginning you had a variety of build methods that had varying degrees of success. You had a few teams (Washingon Wolfpack was the first I came across) that took advantage of what the ALGs offered and "pushed the limits" of cap building. At that point, "pushing the limits" may have been 3rd cap? 4th at most. Anything more and you were being wasteful.

Ehr...

One thing is the build method, the other is the attribute targets. One is independent on the other. One gets you a build with more SP-value to spend, the other turns those SP into ingame advantage... Don't confuse the two.

Anyway, Romo, there were several suggestions on how to get rid of the ALGs that wouldn't make building too simple.

In season 1-4 I would be willing to bet at least half the user base didn't cap build. If they did, they were following more of a circle cap strategy where they got majors to the soft cap, then pushed from there. It wasn't until flames opened his builds and people saw the "extremes" he was pushing that the average GLB user started to see the light.

The average dot is much better now, but there were some dots 5 seasons ago that can't be matched today without the XP trade in and weird hybrid building mechanics. I like algs, they make build decisions more critical imo.

Exhibit A from the early years -- http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=123896 He was not great but he was above average.
