Some people start at 31. It's usually pretty easy to roll for three partial pieces, although some dots really seem cursed. And I only roll three times per ten levels in order to limit the amount of bonus tokens I'm spending.
Forum > Goal Line Blitz > If you spent 120+ tokens on rolling AEQ and found absolutely nothing, at level 41...retire?

I usually do 5, pretty much like jdbolick does. Though if I get on a hot-streak, so do speak, I might be inclined to go a few extra rolls. Like if I nab a %5 piece, I just saved 56 tokens or 41 if I have to move it, that buys me a couple extra rolls imo.

True, I've done that. I'll sometimes bank (3) +5% or +3 items @ level 31/41 and then try a few more later on to see if I can extend multi training or even hit a few normal/intense here and there @ end build.

HBs are one of the more difficult positions to roll EQ (WRs or rTEs seem to be the toughest).
If I had a guy that burned 120 tokens and got feeble results, I would probably retire him
You will almost always do better for any position by waiting until at least level 51, more likely level 61 before rolling at all...but this of course limits your effectiveness at lower levels. I Sometimes wait until level 71 for positions that are easy to roll (O-line, D-line, CBs).
Several things that I find helpful when entering the store:
1) Know your rolling budget and calculate your potential BT savinngs for each item you are considering (make sure you include cost of transferring gear to another slot)
2) Know what your "drop-dead-must-have" items are before you start rolling.
3) Have some flexibility in your build design if at all possible. If you are aiming for an extremely specific build, you will often be better to simply purchase the exact pieces you want, or not attempt to roll for more than one or two items.
4) Realize that rolling for gear is a risk -reward game. In the long run over the course of many dots, you will absolutely come out ahead by strategic store-rolling. But for any specific dot, there is a reasonable risk that you will come out behind.
If anyone is interested in the dynamics of human decision making in risk-reward scenarios and some insight into how folks evaluate these choices, there is a great book on the topic...

Highly recommended for everyone, and especially for folks who are required to evaluate risk-reward as part of their profession or folks who have an interest in cognitive science.

Pretty much do this as well. But I don't start until L41 and roll a couple times, then same at 51, 61, etc.

The one time I tried shopping for pieces for a player, it completely screwed his build. Wasted so many BTs. Just wasn't worth it in my opinion. Pay for what you want and build it yourself. I think it is like playing the lottery, you have 1 chance in a billion and if you roll 50 times, well, you've had 50 chances in a billion which aren't all that much better.

I disagree Bort should make it so that when rolling for a particular archtype that the only things that pop up are stuff that pertain to the archtype. seriously rolling for a OT you shouldn't be getting %tackling and punting crap.

yea that would definitely be a huge bonus. I'm not sure about it getting restricted fully to archetype but there should at least be a bit higher chance that you get it.
I've typically waited to 31 to give the store a few tries. I was planning on waiting until 41+ for a couple tries on my DE this time around but couldn't help myself and decided i'll roll once at 31 and got lucky with a 5%BB piece. Huge savings and benefit for early build. But still going to wait until later for another shot. You want to maximize your chances as of course the higher level gets better items and more total items in store every 10lvs.
I know lv61/71 gives you more items and shot at +3 +5% gear...but i would think there is a lot more risk of the random +1 or +2 prefix to go with a 5%... or the +3 ends up with a 2-3%. I've not really shopped at that high a level though so can anyone give a personal knowledge of the odds? usually by that point i alrdy have 3 and just buy last piece outright to fit it into my open slot. I'm thinking it may be better to shop 41/51 for the +3 or 5% on their own and pick up alternate part.

if you are going to retire him, you may as well keep rolling until it is time to boost. you may get lucky and get what you need and save him. if not, retire as you were anyways.
