true, I think the report button was a useful tool in theory but it does get abused. I think I preferred the good ole' days when folks would pm.

unblock my PMs and I will

I would except all you ever pm me are attacks. There are plenty of mods you can pm for reporting stuff too.

I would be fine if the report button was removed. But there still needs to be a way to make people accountable for trying to get others in trouble

Im with you here but this seems to be a bad argument. Why would I care about something I would never know about since it would never affect me?

Someone can hit the report button 1,000 times on me and as long as I dont get a warning or suspension then why should I care?

If you are breaking a rule then why does it matter who reported you? Rules are rules.

I just think the button should go away and maybe since the mods are in a no win situation they have an actual paid staffer take control of this. Screw the whole community policing itself and have an actual employee do it. Lots of accountability there.

mods are ALWAYS in a lose/lose situation

Do not turn this into a mod bashing thread, or a user bashing thread. Please. (to any user not just who I quoted)

well when I said lose/lose situation I was kind of grumpy (yes I admit to exaggerating at times )

but there are situations where we are damned if we do and damned if we don't so we just do what we can lol

I have seen a lot recently posted about the report button and the users that abuse it. I feel that people that use the report button should be held accountable for their actions. I am not asking to know who does the reporting. I am asking that if someone reports another user. That if the person that was reported isn't banned then the person doing the reporting gets a ban. I think that this would slow down the childishness that goes along with the report button. It would also actually make people think twice before reporting someone. It really would be nice if users were actually held accountable for their actions.

I tend to think that there would be a drop in such activity if the button was removed. I people have to go out of their way to harass someone by reporting them rather than have access to the button, fewer are going to be inclined to put in the extra effort. That extra effort would likely cause all reports to come under greater scrutiny. So false or abusive reporting might just be dealt with more severely.

It's not a perfect solution, but trying this first doesn't hurt. Then things can be reassessed to see if the issue requires more attention.

actually how this idea came to me was that I got a ban from one of the threads in the suggestion forum. and after I appealed the ban it was found not to be a warranted offense and the ban was lifted. while I will admit there have been times that I have broken the forum rules. this instance wasn't one of them and I feel that whatever person reported the so called offense and even the Mod that banned me initially both should be held accountable just as I am. to me if I am guilty then fine I take my ban and go on. but when I haven't done anything wrong and someone is just being childish then they need to get the same punishment that I was about to receive. to me it is only fair since on GLB we do not have the right to face our accuser. I mean we are being judged by mods and admins yet we do not know which ones. we do not know who is doing all of the childish reporting. so the only way I can see as making things fair is to make it that if you report someone and it is unwarranted then you receive a warning, ban or whatever is next in line for that person.

I think that the button should probably be removed, it just makes it too easy.

If you are in fact being banned for something, the specific infraction should be noted so you know exactly what it was and the person who reports someone should also get noted for repeated frivolous reports. I dont recall ever being reported so I dont know how that all works.

Too many things get misunderstood in printed words and people get Web Muscles way too quick. When you take things too seriously on a game like this it may be time to hang up the dots.
