No, technically you are asking for the sim to be re-written. Each place where confidence is taken into account would need to be re-written - and each place where a players RNG roll is generated would need to be re-written. So, a major over-hall to the sim would be required to implement your idea.

I don't want to kill off more dots just as they hit 280 due to another massive change.

I, also, don't totally agree with you here. I get what you're trying to accomplish but think "morale" IS important to a dot and the game. Haven't you ever seen a player of almost any sport... lose morale (individually AND as a team this happens) when they see they're too far behind or, on an individual level, lose personal belief in oneself when they drop pass after pass or miss shot after shot? I would much rather see personal morale better reflected by making the gains, thereof, reflect the positive actions as equally as they should reflect the negative that already exists in the game. Right now I feel it spirals DOWNWARD TOO much because there's nothing equal to counter things when they go bad... and that is NOT a true reflection of 'reality'. Players, in real life, get inspired by positive turns of events and successes on the field of play AS MUCH AS they get down when things go wrong. It's called momentum... and it should eb AND flow. Right now it seems as if there's much more effect of negative things than the counter balance of the positive. That would really help a lot.
As for "consistency" for a DOT, if I was to choose a 'skill' to tie it to, it would be vision. The better a dot's "vision" the more consistent they should be as "vision", in GLB context, stands for more than just someone's eyesight... it also reflects a players understanding of the game, plays, and movements of other dots in so much that it effects the consistency of a dots' play on the field. Anyways... my 2 centavos.
