This was something that was brought up about 15 seasons ago when the first players first started to hit the plateau and decline. I would love to see this be brought back for discussion and worked on to be added into the game.

Can't -1 this enough.

When it went to community vote it did not fare well. Even though the community has changed since then, I have no doubt a similar result would occur it it were brought back up.

Please add to the NGTH list!

Are you purposely lying?

2,831 - said NO WAY WHAT SO EVER

6,948 - said yes

71% of the people who took the poll said YES.

Numbers don't lie, sicarius does

Seriously? Maybe cause there was 4 options for yes, and only 1 for no

why does that matter? 4 options for yes is still a yes.

if the question was just asked

do you want coaches

yes

no

and that was it, you REALLY think those 6,948 would have said no?

so many yes means they want some form of coaches, they just want it tweaked somehow. the bottom line is almost 7k users WANTED coaches.

but even if you ignore the debate over the 440 day old thing.

combine the people who wanted it ASAP and the people who wanted to have it tested for another season, those 2 together still beat out the NOs

there is no way you can spin it to look like NO was the popular choice...

Seems like a cool idea to me, I think it would be very interesting.

Not really if you look at the options

No, I don't like the idea of coaches at all, in any form 2831
Yes, get 'er done! 2446
Yes, but let's take another season to test and compile more suggestions 2355
Yes, as long as coaches can also be created earlier than 440 days old, and let's take another season to compile more suggestions 1157
Yes, as long as coaches can also be created earlier than 440 days old 990

You have roughly 29% saying No and 25% saying yes as the idea was proposed then (which was a very detailed proposal). Two of the others equivocate as to the structure in a positive light, and 990 not only want Coaches as proposed but want them to be an option for younger dots which is even more enthusiastic than a simple yes.

So even if we add the two most positive least wishy washy Yes votes and compare it to the No, the result is a fairly resounding 35% to 29% win for Yes.

I always thought it would be interesting, so +0.5.

Would be a full +1, but:

1) From things Catch has said, I don't think they're going to add it, and I know that some people are virulently against it.

2) I also think that Bort isn't adding anything all that intricate now as I think GLB is splitting his time with whatever his next game is going to be. But I still like the concept, if it's done right (which means Bort would have to focus solely on GLB for a while).

That is the 64 dollar question, whether the people against it are SOOOO against it that they would quit, off setting the cool factor that might make other players stay longer.

I think the ranting is a tempest in a tea cup. The coaching changes are not a big deal, people with piff and paff and then focus on making it work for their team the same way they do every other feature.

But I guess it got Bort nervous. Or just seemed to be too much work for the effort.

Good post. I wasn't around when the idea was abandoned, but your post makes sense. I really don't know which way is better for the long-term user base of GLB (as long as if coaches are added, they're added with depth and not half-assed; something everyone could probably agree upon is that it's better not to have a coaching system than a poorly thought out one).
