Safeties in wide under fourth zones, position them in the middle of their zone.
Or put a CB there if you want. Not hard bro, I think you need to watch some more game film, I didn't have much trouble figuring out what to do to stop the outside run.

I used to have it down. And if thats ALL you want them to be doing, sure not a problem.

But was getting beat up on the pass. So have been trying to use the safeties in both outside run defense and pass protection mode using the check downs or positioning.

But they wind up just going to the secondary, or if a deep zone dash to it without first seeing if its a run play.

This suggestion would create a tactical choice that would make them go to the zone more slowly, to check for a run for a second or two before moving to it. Of course they may not get there in time to help cover passes, they would have to be agile and fast to pull it off. But I see no reason why we should not have that tactical option rather than the currently fairly useless selections?

When they're in wide under zones set them to zone coverage deep. If the offense doesn't run the ball the safeties will drop back 15 yards with any receiver that enters the zone. After that they'll fall back forward and let the receiver go, but that's the whole point of play calling, you try and choose the best play for the situation and if you're wrong you might get beat. But under zone deep seemed to cover the short to medium passes pretty well as well. It's only weakness was screens because the receiver would run through the zone and pull the safety back 10 yards before they realized the playcall.
