There are a ton of them. I would guess that at least 95% of them were just multis created for referral flex.
It's my understanding (and I could be wrong) that the requirement for new users to remain active a few days after they sign up for the person that referred them to get the flex was because this was being abused so badly.

What, then, if someone's player becomes noteworthy? I like to think if I ever built a truly great player his name and everything about him would persist even in retirement, even if I left the site forever.
I'll admit it's highly unlikely I'll build such a player, as I'm not patient enough to get the very most out of ALG's. But that's not the case for every single person. A few players will be notable. I have some who are notable to me, even though not to GLB as a whole, which is why we're given the option when we retire a player whether to keep his name or release it. I think Bort understood intuitively what I'm talking about. I usually release the name, but if a player's persona matters to me I don't.
As to accounts, anyone who wants to close the accounts of inactive agents is being disgusting. I paid for the flex in my account, and I should be able to use it years after I paid for it if that's what I want. Anything else is theft. It might be different for accounts only used once with no flex in them or something, but not in any other cases.

I don't think anyone wants to close inactive accounts. Just be able to clear their players names and/or their user name. And only after long periods of inactivity.
I can't see how it would hurt to clear out names for long inactives, they would still come back to all of their flex and a system could be put in place for them to easily rename all of their dots and enter in a new user name.
If you want to prevent your dots from being renamed and/or keep your user name it is pretty easy to log in once a year.

Keep in mind there's a decent chance many of those accounts I linked are inactive multi accounts. Remember when Boltz was perma banned and he come back with a slough of his inactive multis one after another? He boasted to have well over 50 multis that had been lying around that he had created for referral flex and how they came in handy after his perma.

User that plays for a while and then goes inactive for a very lengthy amount of time is not the same thing as an account that was created and then went immediately inactive for 4 years.
