3) In this particular instance can you think of a single reason that your WR3 should be rendered your most dangerous wideout merely because he lines up in the slot and gets a large boost to his performance?

4) Are you quite certain that your answer to #3 remains valid in the new pass friendly world of Season 26?

First, I have no receivers with the Slot Machine VA, either among my players or on the team I help coach.

Second, I'm certain as to your reason #4 that it's a currently balanced as opposed to pass friendly in GLB. It only seems pass friendly compared to Seasons 24-25 which were GLBoring, and that change needs to be protected. There should be no new VA's added that help man defense in any form. Zones need a boost, but no more GLBoring.

Look at WL box scores of close games: It's still more common to see lower than the NFL average of 7ish (7.2 this season) yards per non-sack pass attempt than higher than it. The averages: http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?tabSeq=2&season=2011&seasonType=REG&role=TM&d-447263-n=1&d-447263-o=2&d-447263-p=1&conference=ALL&statisticCategory=TEAM_PASSING&d-447263-s=PASSING_AVERAGE_YARDS

Oh-- and there is a reason for the bonuses in the Slot Machine VA, more relevant than ever actually, that I just realized: It encourages Possession AT receivers. Most WR's are made as Speedster AT's. The SA's it bonuses are penalized for Speedsters, so it at most balances out the penalty. But they can help Possession AT receivers be more dangerous. Your counter, in addition to the other things, would help ALL types of CB's against slot receivers, not just the least common kind of CB.

1) Didnt mean you as in yours specifically.
2) Re balance etc that all as may be but the fact remains that this VA makes WR3 the more dangerous receiver and thats silliness. It creates a artificial threat thats met with double teams etc that are not warranted.
3) True as to possession WRS and that would still be true, you would want a Possession WR with the VA at the WR3 slot with the OP or not. However this does not equally bonus all CBs, the Shutdown SA is penalized in zone cover CBs I believe.

The Shutdown SA, however, is advantaged in the most common CB type, the Man Specialist. That's even a higher percentage of CB's (I think) than Speedster is of WR's. If you advantage anyone, you advantage the less commonly made Zone Specialist CB's, not the already very commonly made Man Specialist ones.

But advantaging zone coverage in a VA dealing with man coverage is pointless.

I do not think that slot receiver was made for the purpose you believe, to promote possession wideouts. I believe it was made because Bort had heard the term Slot Receiver and wanted to have it in the game.

As such using a countering VA to promote some less popular CB is not really necessary. And in any case since its a VA thats only going to be triggered in a man situation, it HAS to benefit Man coverage or it may as well promote Faeries and Elves for all the usefulness it will have.
