You can already force this in the sim to some extent so it seems like it should be a logical addition and not upset game balance.

Only way I would support this is if there was an option in the DPC added to the player assignments to cover a QB just as there is to cover the HB. Otherwise it's too easy to set up exploit plays. For example, choose a SB play that holds the HB and send all receivers deep. Use the last check down to run, by that time all the coverage is way down field. Easy gain for the QB.

In the real world the defense would have a man set to spy if a QB can do that. You can do that here too.

you can already do this... just select HB all 5 times and when he reaches the end of the 5 progressions he runs

we used to do it with rushing QBs back before they had made the new rushing QB plays. It led to a lot of sacks though. By the time they get far downfield, the pocket is collapsing and you usually end up getting sacked.

not to mention you can still spy the QB, or something like have safeties blitz from their standard positions which would delay them getting to the line and have them fill the hole with the QB got there.

GREAT IDEA!

Could just be a drop down in player tactics, as to whether to blindly run, or use vision check.

True, but that is far from easy, or effecient, and doesn't enhance duel threats at all.

In the real world, only 3 players would go deep, the rest would "stay home".

It was more trying to relieve the fears Dr. E had, because I don't see using this as a means to get a run while the WRs drag the defense down field as very effective

I'd like it better if it were a vision check to see if the run was viable or not... last thing we need is a QB to hit the run progression and just tuck it when there's someone in flat zone coverage waiting on him (when as soon as he tucks it the zone player reads it and makes the sack)

If it was a "look for the run and take it if there is room" than I'd be fine. Perhaps another tactic for QBs about how aggressive they want their run check to be, with something like:

Run even if there's a possibility for a loss in yards
Run only if you think you will get a few yards
Run only if you think you will get the first down or more

+1 if original suggestion is implemented in a manner similar to this
