16 Team Conferences Idea

You play each team in your conference once. = 30 days
:So you get each team once and there is little chance for a tie.

You play a 'similar' team in other conference 4x = 8 days
:These can be done in weeks 3, 7, 11 and 15. Used for tie breakers.

You have a bye 'week'. = 2 days
:Each team gets a different day, etc, blah blah...

Less teams, more inter conference match-ups. More rivalries and less CPU!!!!!!

either you're drunk or including playoffs

I like things the way they are. One non-conference game is minimal and it's just the luck of the draw as to if you play a good non-conference team, which I don't mind. If you are a top team, you shouldn't be afraid to play a top team in week #1 from the other conference.

Seriously, draw it up. Here's some help: http://www.teamopolis.com/tools/round-robin-generator.aspx

you need some help here

with 17 teams

you have 1 team play each of the other 16 teams - so 16 game schedule

just like now with 16 team conference there are only 15 games in conference and the need for the out of conference game

and take another look at the link you provided - if you actually run it it provides a bye for teams which is what is making you see 17 games on the schedule -

Sounds like once again someone lost their out of conference game and cannot handle it.
Leave the system alone.
Are we going to adjust the system every time some whiner looses?

yes it provides a bye for each team, and it also runs for 17 weeks as opposed to 16 we have now. That means the season will last to day 34 (currently 32) so you have to extend the season to 42 days at least.

Also by having 17 teams, how do you break down the playoffs. Now that you have 17 you will either have to have 8 teams in, 9 teams out or 9 teams in and 8 teams out. If you do 9 in, you will have to have some sort of wildcard game which would extend seasons another 2 days. You could do 8 in as now but you would then have even more teams not making the playoffs, which makes even more teams less able to recruit players due to performance.

This isn't going to work, it isn't going to happen. You have to keep leagues in a form that can be divisible by 2 and generally as a power of 2 to keep playoffs simple.

Actually i looked through his gm'd teams and players, he isn't involved in a team that lost a cross conference game. It's still a bad idea to change it but that doesn't seem to be the reason he is pushing it, at least not for something this season.

Winner winner chicken dinner. 17 teams ≠ 16 games/weeks

There have been so many good suggestions for changing the league structure and either eliminating or increasing cross-conference games. Why do we keep coming back to the one that fails basic logic? Is it because there are people who think, "gee, I don't like the interconference game. (lightbulb) I know! we'll just add another team to each conference!" without actually taking the thought to its conclusion? This is how we end up with teenage pregnancies, people!
