Not only is he a Cobra Kai. He is their sensei.

But that was a great post. If only I could feel confident that it was accurate. That is by no means a dig at ImTheScientist but his post couldn't possibly be more than his educated guess at how it works since there are so many unknown factors in this game. However, since I am keeping Catching fairly high on my WRs I do feel validated by his opinion, since he is such a well known personality.

He's almost a GLB celeb

No but I think there is something about what he says though , that's why I've always had my catching high .

Higher catching is also better when catching in traffic I think , making your timing and hands better .

Higher catching does help when you're being covered closely. It really helps with long passes or in double/triple coverage.

That said, for a lot of WR's, the issue is getting open, and not always making the catch. Thats why people are building their WR's like Colon Grifter; only they're about to find out that unless you're the 3rd WR with a great o-line, you're going to fail miserably. Not only that, but the changes in season 4 are going to make that pretty bad.

What Bort SHOULD do is explain that higher catching means you bobble the ball less and can get going quickly right away. That would make people think twice about keeping catching below 30.

I know personally my catching is at 47.3

I'll probably get a 'that's way too high!' response a few times but I have reasoning behind it.

1) It does make you bobble the ball far less. You get up the field quicker.
2) You do seem to catch balls that were out of range before.
3) Even if the impact is minimal now I am certain Bort will have that changed, and when he does I won't be behind.

I see all these builds with such high speed and agility, but being able to make the catch once you are open is just as important as getting open itself.

Oh and also once you increase your vision/catching you seem to make a LOT more plays on deflected balls.

The last two posters had excellent advice.

I think the problem about catching is that people only think of it as a skill to prevent drops , just like the name of this thread .

Because like sting and alex just mentioned it will help you catch those balls when you're close covered , as well as keeping speed during the catch and well all in all catching some of those balls that earlier was just incompletes .

Speed - overhyped ?
Catching - underrated ?

I have 43 catching, 23 confidence, 32 vision, 4 in Sticky Hands and decent strength, yet I lead my conference in drops. The other WR of similar level on my team has similar skills as me (maybe one higher vision and catching) yet he only has 2 drops. Any suggestions for this situation?

Dont over look the "1-Hand Catch" SA. I had 5 drops in my first 3 games, and dumped 2 points into it, and it helped me out. I'm still working on trying to get to that elusive 0, but I agree that catching is underrated. I mean, Of all the attributes that a Receiver needs, its the ability to catch the ball.
Since I upped my catching this year, i've doubled my yardage (first 1,000 yard season!), and all-in-all, I'm happy with the progress I'm making.
Sometimes, It just takes time to find the perfect balance
