One of the theories is that if you have say

160 speed but only 50 stamina, you can't run any faster than if you only had 145 speed, even if your energy/breath is at 100

Obviously you need the stamina to support your speed. The stamina project never showed anything about top speed, just speed over 100 yards of length. Nobody is ever running at 100 energy throughout an entire play, but the ones on that graph that were running at 100 the entire play were obviously the fastest guys.

Pretty sure that is just common sense.

Actually it did, since the speed script worked for that link. Moreover, it also showed differences in speed right from the beginning of the "kickoff," not them starting at the same speed and then declining later. We don't know the mechanism, but stamina is some kind of limiter on top speed.

They also all had the same agility.

it didnt bother anyone that the replay data in that project wasn't directly generated by the sim? even if it had been run directly by the sim, the replay data we get is still approximate

i can find differences in speed for a single player's first streak of the game between multiple games when the build hasn't changed between games.

i'm not going to argue speed players should avoid stamina, but using that project as proof of anything seemed really wrong to me.

It showed they could run at an average higher speed longer

No, it showed that they ran at a higher top speed than the lower stamina guy ever got to.

If stamina is a limiter then shouldn't

http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=1980222 (38.16 fastest I found http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1726435&pbp_id=4413465)

have a higher top speed than

http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=2000800 (38.89 fastest I found http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=2000800)

That may not be the fastest top speed either player has reached, but I'm sure it is ball park for both. Admittedly, the second has his FS piece already where the first doesn't, however, shouldn't 36 stamina limit speed much more than 55 stamina does?

When Bort added the bonus to top speed for First Step, I wonder if he coded it so that the amount you have in the SA affects the amount of the bonus. In any case, don't players with 145 speed and stamina in the 60s hit 39 or 40 on the speed script?

I don't have the speed script, but go ahead and test on this guy:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=1989727

145 speed, 6 FS and 60+ stamina. Should tell you what you need to know.

Only 38.24. Maybe I'm wrong, but I could have sworn ~145 WRs were hitting higher marks back in the day.

I looked at the first few plays of like 4-5 games.

He has one game he hit over 40. But it was blocking. http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1722963&pbp_id=3055978 I don't know what type of VAs he has to know if that is outside blocker assisted, and it looked like an anomaly.

Running routes he got 38.84 in one game and 39.5 in another.

Streaky maybe?

And when did Bort say that First Step adds to top speed? Not saying you are wrong, but that's certainly new information to me.

Also, it sounds silly that stamina would affect top speed at all. If it does, that's dumb...

- Tunnel vision SA being active allows DE's to get a short speed boost when successfully stunning their blocker.
- QB's will not see blind side rushes coming as easily, so are less likely to throw the ball away early.
- First Step has been updated to not only improve acceleration as it normally does, but it actually increases max velocity briefly when it goes off. This allows those with very high agility to still see some benefit from the skill.
