Americans just can`t stand admitting to liking a game they didn`t invent themselves
Most Europeans hate football for the exact same reason: they believe football is the girl-version of rugby (Americans took rugby and turned it into something way cooler, in my opinion)
True to some extent (though it`s really just rugby players who say that), but i think you`ll find that more Europeans have a problem with the stop-start nature of the game. You need plenty of patience to get into and learn the game in the first place when you don`t have a clue what`s going on, and because of the breaks and everything many people just give up. Bear in mind also that Rugby is only really popular in a handfull of European countries as well...The only sports that are popular in my country are soccer, tennis and cycling... Most of my friends like football though: every year I organise a SB-party (it's my birthday in January so) and they like the fact it's start and stop (gives them time to eat and drink I guess). Yet even they claim football players to be wimp's, compared to rugbymen. In my experience that's what most people say, and I've lived like virtually everywhere, so I'm not just talking about the UK, France and Italy (six nations)
