The reason why people were complaining last season is because they weren't used to stopping the pass. Even though it was obvious that the passing was overpowered during the first half of the season (game 1~game 8) it was hardly overpowered during the games that mattered the most. (2nd half)
During the earlier years of the "passing era" I too was frustrated and thought the sim was a joke but with the right builds and the right schemes top DCs were starting to figure it out. Mccollums teams had no trouble stopping the pass, FG didn't have much trouble stopping the pass, and Maine shut down most of the pass heavy teams adding bleeds/gutterade's teams which has been by far the most successful passing teams during the pass heavy era.
I have to agree that pump fake was a joke and needed to be nerfed. Also they needed to nerf the early QB boost (game 1~game 8). I don't think they should have touched anything else. What I liked about last season was the versatility of teams. You had all out passing teams, balanced team, and run heavy teams. All three type of teams had equal success and the better team won at the end regardless of their play style.
Although I understand why some people would like the new sim but it's clear to me that sim has regressed and it actually looks like PW. I know most people would agree with me but there aren't that many pw guys out there that plays pw for the sake of pw.
The merit of PW is the competitiveness and the fairness. I think Bort has done a brilliant job of separating PW from other league with the QB boost, CE rental program until now.
But don't get me wrong. This isn't to knock on teams that are having huge success this season. In fact I have a lot of respect for teams like SAS and to be quite honest I think SAS would still be undefeated with last season's sim. That's how good dead.ed is. And at the end, great coordinators will eventually adapt to the new sim but I just want the sim to be more versatile rather than one sided, where its limited to one style of football.
And this is coming from someone that has been a big critic of people whining about running slams and has been a big fan of smash mouth football. I have no problem with today's sim and we'll likely adapt but I can't really buy into the fact that the sim is going toward the right direction. It's definitely has taken a step back.
I think I agree with everything you just said
