STR DE needs to take STR to AT LEAST 77 by level 14 without EQ.
You won't get as much done once OT's, and OG's catch up and pass you.

My First STR DE I took STR to 68 ASAP and he did pretty good until he hit cap 22, but on my second STR DE I took STR to 77 and I'm taking him all the way to the top, he plays great and gets lots of penetration... On my 3rd STR DE I took STR to 81, and I'm watching him develop right now.

dang. Did he suck early on? I wasn't really thinking about keeping this guy long term, so I wanted to cap other things. I think he's redeemable at least.

My STR to 77 DE did suck for quite a while
http://goallineblitz.com/game/full_player_stats.pl?player_id=1678463&playoffs=0

Strength: 123.15 (+36)
Speed: 71.72
Agility: 79.15

Those are the only stats of his that matter.
I was hoping to see some competitive production this season, but we did not have a single evenly matched game, so it was all blowouts/one game against players 4 months older than us... but as his SPD was increased this season i saw an improvement in penetration. I'm thinking about putting points in first step to help his boost off of the broken blocks even though it is a penalized SA for his archetype. He is a straight beast though. I've never seen any OT or OG manhandle him on run plays... TE's don't stand a chance.

Traditionally I'm messing with 110-120 agi, 95-115 spd, and 80-90 str. Now I'm trying a new route: 115-125 agi, 85-95 spd, and 95-105 str. I'm guessing this will be much better as I don't think the rate of benefit return for spd beyond 85-90 is that good.

Balanced DEs are solid, and some of the best DEs have been balanced.

If you want to pimp one attribute, strength or speed work better than agility.

As for the effectiveness of speed at DE, I disagree that there is no value beyond 90, especially if you plan to do something other than bullrush style.

Take a look at how DE sacks occur...often times they are coming off a block from a long ways off the QB and if you don't have speed the only way you get the sack is if the QB fails his vision check.

Otherwise you need to wait for the plays where the QB drifts towards you in the pocket.

When that DE is ready for Pro's let me know.

I made a DE almost like you did, except I capped agility before strength. He has the following key stats now:
Lvl 50
Strength: 122 (+37)
Speed: 54
Agility: 92 (+3)

He is excellent in run support and in breaking blocks, but takes forever to get to the QB because of low speed. I am working on speed though, but will be unable to take it past 74. Very interested in that FS experiment, as I didnīt think about using it as it is penalized.
