10 sounds fun, mostly because I could use some work on special teams

Having hung out on the GLB Forums for a couple of months now, I am incapable of making a list without including:
penultimate number) ???
ultimate number) Profit

It's just made slightly odd in this case because we've had new suggestions since I made the original list. Had I planned ahead, I could have called #7 #98, and #8 #99 to ensure that didn't happen.

I thought about running a who is best in silver tourney. The idea would be you get a captain who gets to pick 3 other teams, (4 total) and they represent your league.

Ideally there would be 8 teams one for each silver league, and they'd play a double elimination format with points being awarded per win, and the amount of points would increase based upon what round you are in. Basically It would settle any dispute of who is best.

But to be honest after seeing gold a little, silver just seems like JV and copper like the freshman team. Good teams/players there, but the competition level isn't near what it could be. Still it could be a fun tourney idea if someone actually cared about what silver league was the best.

That would be dumb...the GL plays are too easy to shut down.

The OOP could be fun.

I also think the one where you can only run 1 offensive play would be cool. But I'd change it so you could get 1 offensive play each quarter (but you can only run 1 play each quarter), so a total of 4, unless there is overtime then you can get 5. That would also give it more strategy.

FB and TE tourney....help teams make use of them.....HB's could be used in passing game only. Could still rush QB and FB only.

Set HB's @ WR. ( I am seeing many upper level teams trying to play scats @ WR)

Ok I will stfu now

My FB and TE are likely leading candidates for MVP on my team. ;0

I agree, 1 play each quarter sounds good, given these changed I'd think this would be the best tourny.

What about a 4Q tourney, which you have to hit the other team with a certain type of offense in each quarter, but where each quarter is different? Teams would have a choice 4 different types of offenses and can use any of them in any quarter, but once you use one, it can't be reused the rest of the game.

For example, you have 4 types of offenses to pick from, you need to decide which quarter you want to use them in...

RB Outside Rushing only = any rushing plays that go outside the tackles.
RB Inside Rushing only = any rushing plays that go in between the tackles.
QB Rushing only = Any QB rushes, inside or outside.
Passing only = passes only.

A team might pick to pass in Q1, rush outside in Q2, rush inside in Q3, and QB rush in Q4.

This tourney would help those teams that are really balanced, both on offense and defense, and thus the teams that do well here will often be different from those in other tourneys where teams focus on one type of offense.

Thoughts?

Or what about an Ironman tourney where only 11 players are ever allowed to play. The challenge in this is to pick the best 11 players and you have to take into account OOP penalties, stamina, and general skills for the different positions. Games will be funny to watch as well and better teams don't have as big of an advantage due to the strange format.

Thoughts?

I prefer the 1 play/quarter myself. I get what you're aiming for, but a team could run OT for one quarter, slams for another quarter, and then sneaks for a 3rd. Not only is that boring and offers little strategy, but once you mix in a quarter of passing, it's pretty much your standard gold game in the end...the plays are just grouped. Plus, defensively, you pretty much know what's coming, so everyone will just play a few good, balanced defenses. If you're only allowed 1 play/quarter you don't know if that's 4 inside plays, 4 outside plays, 4 passes, etc.

I like your iron man suggestion, but I think somebody would need to do a test game first. I'm not completely confident that a bunch of extra guys won't creep into the game somehow. If anybody is up for a test, I'm game!

14) Formation Elimination Tournament
After thinking a little more about Gerr's four-quarter idea, I came up with this one. Each game, you can only use one formation. Once you've used a formation for a game, you can't use it again in the tournament. We've got I, SI, WI, PS, SB, SG, SG5 and GL, so the tournament could go 8 rounds without ever duplicating a formation.

Punt or FG Tournament.

Who said special teams is 1/3 of football? With this tourny it would be 100%. Set to QB spike or QB kneel for downs 1-3 and then kick or punt on 4th down.

Good for practicing your special teams plays and fine tuning your return squads.

Forget the spike/kneel...just punt on 1st down!
