is there any chance that kicking helps punting (or vice versa)?

Not worth doing - spend the money, get both. My first kicker spent his first season as a punter (my choice - I wouldn't do it again) and I now have 36 sp in punting that are wasted. My newest kicker is also doing it (owners choice - he doesn't believe in punters). Time will tell but I hope we don't have to rely on him to get us out from deep on ours side of the field. Even though this is a game the simulation needs certain skills to make the K or P do his job - sure you can train them all, but then you won't be worth a plugged nickel at either job
You shouldn't actually put points into it...just make him punt with 10 punting.
I am not putting anything into punting. This season it's hard enough to get a kicker to perform properly, especially on FG. No way I am worried about punting

NO - Punting mechanics are different and you have to train different categories

What about doing a drop kick field goal ala Doug Flutie with the the Pats a few years back? Shouldn't punting help that?

Nobody seriously drop kicks anymore. It was more of a stunt when Flutie did it than anything else.

For all the negativity about doing this I will say it does get the XP faster then just kicking or punting!
