Tana River, Alaska (AP): After an exciting first week in the new season, we come to the West Rivalry Week. The two games featured have more on the line than just the teams record. Brady's Ancient Taboo Tiki Idol and the Golden Rope Trophy will be on the sidelines and presented to the winning team. One also has a fun side bet on the game between the team's management known as the “Tecmo Chanllenge”.

The first game squares off two of the top teams in the West. Honolulu last season entered the playoffs as the second seed and made it to the Conference Championship game. One of only two teams to beat them was Los Angeles. The Express was the third seed in the playoffs and they lost in the second round to the Beach Boys. In the short time of this league, these two teams have some of the most history. The series is tied at 1-1 and many expect to see these teams face each other again in the playoffs.

In the first week, Honolulu used a balanced attack and a strong defensive performance to dominate Long Beach Dub All-Stars. Los Angeles had a tougher game as they needed a last minute touchdown to pull out the win against Dallas. Los Angeles will need a strong showing by Brady to carry their team to victory. They are confident, but many experts have predicted Honolulu will win this game and take the Idol home.

The second rivalry game features the Eugene Slugs and the Tana River Ewoks. Both teams made the playoffs last season. Eugene entered the playoffs with the seventh seed and lost in the first round to Honolulu. Tana River was the fifth seed and made the second round before losing to Huskers Illustrated. Both teams are hoping to build on their success and establish their teams as a league power. Last season, in the only meeting between the teams, the game ended in a 9-9 tie. Both teams had chances to win the game, but could not finish the other team off. Many of the Slugs fans blame their kicker, Foot'Of Thunder. His missed extra point in the 4th quarter allowed the Ewoks to tie the game with a field goal in the last minute.

Last week, Eugene hit a road bump falling to a tough Timpanogos Thunder team. They struggled to get their offense clicking, but still put up ten points in a close game. Their defense only gave up one touchdown but had a hard time stopping the Thunder running backs. Tana River had an easier match against the Las Vegas Aces. As their game was never really in question, their starters didn't play as much and will be fresh for the upcoming game. The Slugs have been known as overachievers and caused a few upsets last season. The experts have picked against them again in was is expected to be a hard fought game.

Another good write up... the Slugs hope not to hang themselves with the rope.... although I'll take a loss over another full OT game <sigh>

Good luck on the game Ewoks...

Eastern Conference owners or GMs, if you have an upcoming game that you think would be good to have me spotlight in one of these, send me a PM. As I am in the Western Conference, I know those teams better. I am not guaranteeing you will get written up, but it would help me figure out who is more deserving. Thanks.

Tyrante: Tecmo/Saint Paul would seem to be "the game" in the East.

Tana River, Alaska (AP): There is a new development in the league this week. Last season there were some cross town rivalry games, but this takes it to an entirely new level. The two Long Beach teams are fighting to see who gets to stay in town. The loser must move away.

As to not get confused about the two teams, one is known as the Long Beach All-Stars. The other is Long Beach Dub All-Stars. When we hit the streets of Long Beach, most people did not realize there was a difference. Some also did not care to speak with us as we were down in Belmont Shores on a Friday night. I think the protesters at Washington Mutual got a better response than us.

Last season the All-Star team played in a different league and were demoted. This caused there being two teams with such similar names in the same league. Unfortunately being demoted has not translated in wins this season either. The All-Stars have opened their season with an 0-2 start. They have only found the end zone once in those games and have given up 50 points in total. The schedule doesn't get much easier.

The Dub All-Stars last season made a major roster move after five weeks into the season. They then barely missed out of the playoffs ending with an 8-8 record. This season, they are expecting to become a playoff team. They lost their opening game to the West favorites, Honolulu. They then took care of a good Inferno team. Their next five games are all winnable.

One last twist to this game, the teams are owned by brother and sister. Each owner manages players on the opposite team's roster. Each actually has more on the opposite team than their own. Many wonder how this will affect the outcome of the game. Experts don't see this changing anything. The Dub All-Stars are the better team and will run away with this game. All-Stars, perhaps you'd be a better fit in North Hollywood.

I'd agree.... its time for the pretenders to say adios amigos. And to be totally off topic here (well, maybe not as we may fit that bill, lol), does anybody else think that the movie Semi-Pro is just freaking hilarious, or was I just too damn drunk when I watched that .... either case is a very viable option!!

Semi-Pro was a great movie. I think we still have it here from Blockbuster. I need to watch it again before we return it.
