So is it a poll about the entire CAREER of these Super Bowl winning QBs, or a poll about just their Super Bowl performances? I assume the latter because, I mean, seriously, Hostetler/Rypien/Dilfer??? deserves to be in ANY sane man's discussion of the former. In that case, much as I agree that Namath was hugely overrated, on the basis of that one game he has to be up there. OTOH, if it's about Super Bowl career, how can Montana NOT EVEN BE ON THE LIST?! Hell, if it's about ANY kind of metric for QB excellence, how can Montana not be on the list??? (And I'm a Unitas fan!)

Joe Namath was awful. Had 1 good game and he wasn't even that great he just made a guarantee. I'd rather have dilfer on my team and brad johnson really wasn't that bad until later in his career. Put up sick numbers in Minnesota but then again so did every qb for that 8 year span

bingo... product of new york hype and kissing suzie kolber...

Joe Namath was considered the best pure passer ever until Marino. He had the quickest release perhaps of all-time. The rules were much different in his day so you have to compare him to his contemporaries. Dawson and Namath are the only AFL HOF QB's (Blanda was a QB/Kicker, though a good QB). Broadway Joe was the first QB to throw for over 4000 yards when 3000 was a rarity.
By your own estimation, Johnson was one of many to put up sick numbers whereas Namath was the only one to put up sick numbers in his big years. Namath was a legend before SB III; that just cemented it. Like Sinatra sang, 'If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere" and Joe owned NY the way Mantle did!

Thank god for ATKM that you seem to at least know about GLB football because you obviously know nothing about the NFL.

Namath was terrible by any standard in any era. He just wasn't a good QB. Not accurate, not agile, not a good decision maker, etc... Easily the most overrated QB in NFL history. Maybe one of the most overrated players in sports history

Great sideburns though

I think those are the only QBs who have won just a single superbowl.

Once again It's a poll of who is the Best QB that has only WON ONE Super Bowl....The point of me posting it here-which some of you got-was that Brees is on the list, he hasn't won ANY YET and Manning is on the list as a ONE win QB. So ESPN is calling todays game a Saints win.

If you talk to people who played in the '60's or read what the great coaches said, it is unanimous that Unitas was the best.
After that it is either Jurgenson or Namath, take your pick; followed by Tarkenton, Dawson, and Starr in no particular order.

BTW CV, Staubach was after Namath. Roger didn't play in the NFL in the '60's per se.

Stats alone are not a measuring stick in the slightest. Elway didn't have great TD/Int ratio and yet, he was the best of his day, period. That was when the rules were already skewed to favor passing.

And chronaug, your statement regarding NFL knowledge was asinine, but whatever. Film of Namath is still used today by coaches who are teaching their QB's proper throwing technique, and follow through. The 3 best pure passers ever are widely considered to be Marino, Namath, and Fouts. I included this in case you wanted to bone up on some NFL/AFL history.

K.O.B. Staubach played from 69-79. Namath from 65-77, I would consider them contemporaries.

Proper throwing technique resulted in Namath QB'd teams beating only 2 teams with a winning record in the last 8 seasons of his career.
How the hell is Joe Namath in the Hall of Fame and Ken Stabler isn't. Stabler threw for more yards, more TD's, In 146 career starts Stabler's teams went 96-49-1, Namath's went 62-63-4 in 130 starts. Both have one super bowl title BUT Namath's career playoff record was 3-1...TOTAL for his entire freaking career 4 playoff games. Stabler had a 9-6 career playoff record. 15 games as opposed to Namath's 4

It's called Super Bowl overkill. It should be a great game anyhow. Jello shots anyone? O_o

Namath really only had seasons through about 1970 tbh. Injuries after that made him a shell of his former self, much like Sayers. Same time period ironically enough...

I completely agree that The Snake was better. Both are Tide grads and played under Bear. Funny that they are two of the freer spirits as well; Bobby Layne notwithstanding. Stabler was a lot of fun to watch and was the perfect QB for the crazy Raider teams of that era. His TD throw to Clarence Davis while getting sacked against Miami to end their long streak is something I'll never forget. Epic!

How about the play where Stabler, and Casper kept pushing a loose fumble to the end zone and then recovered it to win! Great teams and Madden was the perfect coach. Tatum, Sistrunk, Atkinson, Hayes, Alzado, Matuszak...a lot of crazies on those teams!
