create FB passing plays for FB2 and stick your TE there?

The problem with a majority of the FB plays is that they take some time to develop because of the FB's route not really being very direct. That, mixed with the fact that most Offensive FBs going around (rare as they are) are mostly power orientated so that means it takes even longer for plays to develop.
That said, I still think they have their use - especially if DCs don't cover them. Eventually, those who don't cover your FB (presuming he can catch occasionally and has some speed) will be forced to as it just leads to easy short-medium gains. I also like them running routes (especially on plays where the RB, FB, TE and WRs are all able to run one) if there ARE defenders assigned to them just so those defenders aren't on anyone else.

She runs the ball a lot, but she's also 4th in the league in receptions and 5th in receiving yards.
Still leading the WL MVP race. Should have 1000 yards running and receiving by the end of the season.
Really, this ought to settle the OPs question.

Not really. One success among all of the possibilities does not really settle the argument. Good for you, though. I watch my FB run wide open too many times and see the pass go into incredible coverage too many times. There are a few of the main plays that will get the ball thrown to him, but not much else.
I have a receiving FB myself and also OC a team with a receiving FB. My primary gripe is that if you aren't running a play intended for a FB, then the only benefit you get out of sending your FB on a route is the possibility that you'll have one less defender blitzing. If you figure out where you don't have to worry about the FB as a receiver (meaning plays where the QB will not look his way) then you get a leg up as the defense because you can blitz without consequences.
One thing that could resolve that is a QB's refusal to throw short of a first down. You could have a RB with 10 yards of empty space in front of him and 1 yd to go for the first and a QB will ignore him.

this can help, but it would be nice if there was a slider, or it could be more situational...
also no to "favor long passes"

With a solid FB, there are 4 or 5 FB primary plays that work well, and a handful of other plays that have a FB route that work well against a poorly designed defense.
Any position other than FB at the FB slot will not perform as well due to the out of position negative bonuses. I've tried using speed backs at FB2 and ran the wide stuff, and you're right, they look s..l...o...w...
A specifically built receiving FB CAN hurt a defense if used correctly, experiment in preseason and chart results.

I think this is the biggest problem, I don't like any of the routes that the FBs get to run. It's like the HB single back slam, it has a slow angular route so why bother...
